Title: Master and slave hard drive set-up
Post by: DuckRA2 on July 04, 2011, 01:50:59 PM
So I am running out of space on my 177 gb drive. I have been deleting and zipping stuff for the past year or so trying to make space for games and programs. I am thinking about just buying another internal hard drive that would be faster and have greater capacity. Maybe 6gb/s at least 500 gb. Probably not solid state because they are more expensive. I have also heard of issues, so maybe wait for them some years to become more reliable and cheaper...   If I buy a 6gb/s hard drive and set it up as a slave to the master drive will it be slower? + are there any other cons I should know about?

It will work just fine, just be sure to jumper your main drive as master and move the pin to Slave or CS (cable select) and put the main drive in the proper place on the cable...it will tell you where.

No, there are no cons. Although you should really look into SATA drives if your motherboard supports it.
