at least you can't dislike stuff. that's the last thing we need
not a huge fan of it showing up on the user profile though
-
I’d say likes are more of a replacement to a whole post just having a quote and having the person saying “What he said” TBH
-
I have the most like given right now

Maybe, maybe not. If you're giving advice, and you crack a joke/use a picture, people may like it for something outside the advice.

This is how I feel about it. Also, I really like how it all looks with the little smooth transition after you click and being able to see who liked it along with you.

Not sure what I think of the concept of the like button on GTM, but the implementation is pretty poor. It's ugly as **** and distracting as-is.
-
yeah it looks gross and out of place tbh
-
I think its only useful for showcases. Maybe have a system where you can enable likes on a post/make a button that makes it a post thats supposed to showcase a bot if that makes sense.
This could also come with other features like maybe a feedback function where members can write small comments about both the negative and positives of a bot that is being shown and will then be shown to the player in an organised way. A bit like a survey so a player can easily tell what the real issues are. Of course thats basically just commenting so

I get the idea of the like button and in certain situations it could work, but any feature that encourages people not to leave actual feedback on a showcase, which we are already severely short of, in favour of just clicking a 'Like' button isn't something this site needs ATM, in my opinion.

yes

I like the idea but the big red button is ugly. I've seen them on other forums under the profile pic that looked pretty good.
-
I think we need a dislike button (just like reddit)

That's a bad idea. GTM has had a few issues with negativity and people annoying each other. Adding a dislike button could actually make things worse in My opinion. It would only get people angry at each other and cause them to get into fights or day something they regret. I dont like to use examples or try and blame you for stuff but when ra2winner and fighting robot informal weren't impressed with your bots you just asked them to battle you which is sort of the type of thing that might happen if you do add a dislike button.

But then I can dislike their posts (fbi's) :argue_smilys:
-
I repeat what I said. It's just not something we need. Someone disliking a post will make not benefit anyone.
If someone wants to say they don't like it for whatever reason they should comment about it
-
How about a compromise?
Implement a dislike button, but only for FBI's posts.
-
I'm not a particularly frequent poster but I think the like button is unnecessary for the purposes of GTM. It adds complexity we don't really need and I don't want anyone to focus on how many likes a post gets since stuff like that tends to happen. GTM has been working fine for years and years and I'm afraid a change like this will affect reading and posting habits.
If people like a showcased robot then they should make a post saying why they like it.
I do agree the current implementation is pretty ugly.
Maybe I just missed it, but can we discuss things like this before they are implemented to see if it's something that people would actually be interested in? Is there any reason this was added that I am not aware of? There might be other things members would rather have implemented.
I do appreciate that someone is making an effort to improve GTM in some way though.
-
It's not necessary, but I think the idea is alright actually. Just make it less ugly.

Just an extra tibit, nobody on staff was informed that this was going to be implemented. If I had to guess the idea probably came from
https://gametechmods.com/forums/site-news-and-feedback/what-can-gametechmods-as-a-community-do-for-you/msg745052/#msg745052
and a few of ther discussions and chats we've had with users.
I'm not gonna complain at all since apanx actually get's sh** done as an admin.

So this like button came and now I can't copy any text or open spoilers. So now it's unironically harmful.

How about for yours too since you’re the exact opposite of cancer

Implement a dislike button for, "the exact opposite of cancer?"
Are you one of those people who use Crystals before chemotherapy?
