Title: Le Mans
Post by: wakkydude on June 15, 2012, 04:26:41 PM
Hell yeah it's happening. 16th-17th June (that's this weekend!), 2-2 PM BST (england time).

Big contenders include Audi, who are hoping for an easy win now that Peugeot is out of the game this year, and Toyota, who have a new car that seems very promising in the warmups.

Also debuting is the Nissan Deltawing, a futuristic looking car getting a whole class of it's own. Lucky.

I assume one of you rednecks over at GTM knows something about this event, am I right?

I'd seen something about the Nissan Deltawing on wtf1. It did say it was racing under the number 0, and was ineligible for classifcation. Does look badass, though.

I like the idea that Le Mans and Formula 1, the sort of top levels of motorsport, are sort of heralding the next generation of ordinary road car development. Like the introduction of carbon fibre as a construction material, and the KERS system that was trialed a few years ago, I've seen a couple of cars that had a similar system. I'm pretty sure they were hybrids that used it, which would make sense.

Crap, that's coming up soon! Is there any way to watch it live online? (I have no way to get it on TV.)
SPEED alternate between TV and this stream (http://stream.speedtv.com/corvette)

You can get live info over here (http://www.lemans-tv.com/)

There are loads of other sport streaming websites, and a simple google search will get you a big list. Watch out though, the sites and streams are unreliable and infested with ads.

Well, Audi seem pretty safe now, despite their best attempts to throw it away.
Also, this is sad to watch:

Watch this race every chance I get.  Can't wait for next year's.  In the meantime check out this Le Mans tribute video I found on YouTube.

:( Tragedy has struck this year's race. Allan Simonsen, driver of the #95 Gulf Oil Aston Martin has died of his injuries after crashing in the Tertre Rouge corner of the track.  He was on his forth lap of the race when he lost control of his car and smashed into a guardrail, striking it so hard it knocked the bark off of a tree just on the other side of the guardrail.
