Alright, so this started happening this morning. Basically, my mouse pointer will go rouge and dart from the top to the bottom of my screen. I am at college right now, so I'm using the touchpad only. The touchpad on this laptop has always been a little bit jumpy, so this could just be a result of that. The mouse pointer has spazzed out twice now. Laptop model is an HP G60 running W7 64 bit.
What I've done: Cleaned off the touchpad surface. I figured that there could be something on it that I couldn't see causing it to mess up.
What I'm doing: Running Malware Byte's Anti-Malware
What I plan to do: Run a regular virus scan.
Update/Reinstall touchpad drivers
What I'm most concerned about: If this is a malware issue. I like to keep my computer pretty clean.
I have no knowledge of whether or not this is only occuring with the touchpad and not with a mouse. My knowledge on the situation is limited as it has only happened twice so far. One thing I did notice, however, was that when I turned the touchpad off using the button above it, the mouse pointer would stop.

What did you use to clean it?
Does it happen after you do anything on the computer or just move the mouse?
Might be your TouchPad software on your computer.
Or as you said, a virus sorta thing.
-
I just used my sleeve to clean it to get any sort of grease or other junk off. It hasn't happened enough to know what's triggering it.

Might sound stupid but...
Was anything on your sleeve?
Did your sleeve get wet or anything?
-
My sleeve isn't what caused it, if that's what you're implying. I did it after it started happening.

Well thats one outta the way...
Do you think it would have somehow gotten wet or anything on it?
Or has anyone else used it?
-
Did you try playing around with the toucpad sensitivity in the control panel?
-
Has this always happened?
I'm not sure about the turning red thing, but my touchpad can dart across the screen if i accidently lean too much on one side of the area around the pad.
-
actually had the same problem happen like a month ago and I have a HP too, but it went away the next day I turned on my computer though.
-
i would say just buy a mouse. grab a small wireless one you can just slip into your pocket or something between classes.
-
I have one that i use at home, and I used to bring it to school but got sick of carrying it.
Problem hasn't seemed to happen since this morning.
