Kitties Kitties Kitties.
« on: April 14, 2013, 10:44:06 AM »
Here is a video of the kitties that I work with at the Animal Shelter.

I do volunteer work during the weekends. I totally recommend you do so.  It builds good karma and gets you chicks.

bonus:  I'm in the background of the video for like 2 seconds. :P

Damn, I dislike seeing cats in cages.

More so than any other animal. Cats without freedom are like birds without wings.

I totally agree.  The shelter I help is mostly cage-less. We keep the newborns with their moms in cages and some of the sick cats have to be kept away from others to help them get better.  But overall 90% of the cats are allowed to free roam without cages and there are cat doors that allow them outside to pens where they can run around.   When the shelter was first built... it had a bunch of cages, but most of them are left empty now.

The shelter is non-profit and operates off donations.  So, we do the best with what we got.  But, a ground rule is we aim to have them out of the cages when they are well or don't need nursing. :D

Cats are one of my favourite animals, I've gotta say.

Currently volunteering at a shop for a hospice in my area, would rather volunteer at a cat shelter though.

I love cats. I just can't eat a whole one by myself.

Lol

Cats are pretty nice pets and they don't give as much work as dogs (although I have a dog too)
My house is factory of cats, literally. The standard number of cats here is 3. But since we have one very sexually active male, one of the females has produced on average around 100 cats in its 8 year life and just made 5 more, 2 weeks ago (I'm seriously not exaggerating in the numbers). Once they reach a certain age, they are given to whoever wants to keep a cat.
The maximum number of cats my house held at once were 14 when my 2 females incredibly gave birth in the same day.

Jesus man.  And here I am wondering whether I have enough responsibility for one cat.

Ahaha, don't worry. The mother is the one that has all the work to keep the newborns. We just need to do some small maintenance once in a while. The kittens are gone as soon as they start eating solids. The only issue is the need to buy food more often.
Also having a large garden for the cats to wander around also reduces the amount of responsibility needed.

How was that like? you know, having 14 cats. :P

It was kind of scary at first but also very cool to see both mothers babysitting each others kittens and actually taking turns in caring for them (very interesting to watch). 12 cats in one box, lol
But as I said above, It won't give much work as 3 cats, as long as you don't keep the newborns until a certain age

Believe it or not, my cat was independent as heck.

I used to talk to him (of course he couldn't talk back) and he'd give me expressions based on his response;
"Hey. Sup Booboo."
"oh hey nuthin' much I'm chillin' sup with you?"

or

*picks up cat* "Go eat! :3"
"B*TCH I CAN FEED MAH OWN F**KIN SELF"

I loved that cat.

I just can't get enough of cats, cats are my favorite domesticated animal,
i don't know why, maybe because they're cuter than dogs,
or something.

My family has 2 cats, one all black, and one is a tabby calico.
I'm going to get a Orange Maine coon at the end of the schoolyear.
If i'm good at school, of course.

Cats are cuter, imo. They are also very independent and they only want to be pet when they are in the mood.
Dogs give a lot more work but eventually there are great benefits when the dog is well educated, if you have enough patience for that, of course. Unlike the cat, the dog needs much more attention.

There's also the usual argument of who's smarter. Personally I think cats are smarter but they are just too stubborn and don't give a damn about you, generally speaking. The dog for instance is always ready to learn.
