Title: iTunes rant, worst software ever?
Post by: Badger on February 21, 2011, 01:40:01 PM
Rant/explanation here:

So, how do I speed up iTunes, and why is it so slow? My suspicion is that iTunes is purposely hideous on PC, with Apple making Macs and all. I'm on a perfectly capable Dell Vaio laptop with 3GB ram, an Intel Pentium Dual CPU (200GHz) and 224 GB of possible space on the HDD, with 127GB left to use.

My mom upgraded her iTunes and lost all her songs. Then later she managed to recover them and said "not doing that again"

The best way is to spend as little time as possible in it.
Either buy the actual CD's or torrent (or both ofcourse).

Get a mac :P

For some reason, it only works well on a mac. It's not designed for PCs. Or use Spotify or Limewire...

Limewire is dead now i believe. Use Vuze, it's very good.

I have Vuze. The only problem with it is that it doesn't stream music to my Xbox like it promised. It did on my old desktop.

I usually get my music from BeeMP3.com. Very good, fast and secure website, and iTunes is painless when I steer clear of the Store of Doom. But I want apps, which I buy on my iPod, but when my iCredit iRuns out, iHave to add more on iTunes.

Never use credits, stay on the same version you got ATM, buy every song with your credit card, or do the simple option...

Listen to your songs on Youtube.

Agreed, itunes is very confusing.

It took me half an hour to put some of my files on my ipod, as It just didnt want to work.

Intel Pentium Dual CPU (200GHz)
I think you meant 2.00?

I never put money on my iTunes acocunt, if I even have one, pretty sure I never made an account I only got the program. Í just get the music from external sources and let iTunes put everything into a nice little folder in a fairly good order.

Its true its quite slow, but im fine with it, I have spent too long working this playlist 3 times(took serval days every time) into my iTunes because of harddrive/system flailures.

i dont want to jailbreak my itouch

Why?

cause its been known to go wrong, i get my music for free, i have 30 bucks in giftcards for apps (which will last me a while), so i don't see what benefits it will give me?

I never experience problems related to iTunes but that doesn't mean I like it. Creative MediaSource Player has much better playlist options. Unfortunately, my iTouch works best with iTunes and I use the store too often to not have it installed.

Save your library and uninstall/reinstall iTunes. That could help. Also try turning off any features you don't use, such as AirTunes and Smart Playlists.

There is no way to brick an iDevice by jailbreaking it. You can always restore the software via iTunes.

what benefits it will give me?
Tons of apps that Apple won't allow on the App Store. Also, it's a philosophical thing for me - I bought something, I have every right to have full access to it, I don't want my devices to be crippled by DRM.
