how to get video on top of a background?

hey all, with Robo Zone 2 getting closer i wanted to give all entries a video splash and I'm not sure how to do it. Basically i want the robots pic and info to be like a still image but in a corner of the splash i would like to have a highlight video of that robot.

I believe this will help me give the tournament a more professional look. I have always wanted to do more with robot intros/splashes so any help would be awesome :)

You can download custom effects for windows movie maker that allow picture in picture. Otherwise Sony Vegas is your best bet.

only addons I ever found for WMM had to be purchased

I just make all my fancy stuff in flash then use a Flash to AVI converter, the only downside is the converter sometimes lags the animation (as seen in some videos)

You have to have to be a damn brain surgeon to know how to use it.
It takes me HOURS to edit a simple video!.....too complicated to use

What is Daemon doing for his little tourney in his showcase. The videos have little video splashes at the start? (Hard to explain, its in his stock showcase).

Well what you could do for free (I thought Daemon was doing this but now that I think about it it's probably some fancier program):


Make the bot's highlight video like normal.  Then open it up and arrow through it frame by frame, taking a screenshot of each one.  Now resize and paste all those frames into the bot pic/info image.  Turn those into a .gif animation or a .avi, which can then be imported into Windows Movie Maker.


However, it will be EXTREMELY time-consuming (at 30 fps, a 5-second highlight video = 150 frames you have to make).  But once you get it done you don't need to do it ever again for that bot, unless you want to change the highlight video.

once i figure out how to use this screen recorder (CamStudio) I will be able to make video intros .All I'm doing is recording the videos, putting a highlight video together, put together the background and info, put the video on top of the background and remove the borders etc. from the video player so it's just the video on top of the image.
