Title: Google Chrome Problem
Post by: ashman12 on July 28, 2012, 04:59:54 PM
Google Chrome wont even start up, nothing at all. I have it in both the quick start taskbar (Next to the Windows Button) and i have it as an icon on my desktop. If i click on the taskbar icon it changes to a little box around it (As if it were about to load up) and it stays like that for 3-4 seconds and then the box around the icon goes away. No windows/tabs open up when i click and nothing happens at all. Trying to load Chrome from the icon on the desktop does nothing aswell, its as if the program isnt there and the icon is trying to load up thin air.

I cant even un-install it, ive tried both methods that i can think of, Using the uninstaller that comes with Google Chrome, and by going to Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs and neither work. Clicking the uninstaller that comes with it does nothing and same with Add/Remove Programs.
Ive had this happen a few times before and ive never been able to get it to work but its starting to p*** me off having to resort to other Internet Browsers because Chrome is my main used one (Used to use Opera but cant get used to that again and IE can take a hike...). I recently (Past month) done a system restore on my laptop (Because of an error that i could not fix at all) and after the laptop was running as normal i downloaded Chrome and it worked perfectly fine up until yesterday when it just stopped working out of the blue.

Ive tried searching google for an answer but everything ive searched brings up nothing, only errors which show Chrome loading up the browser but not being able to load up any webpages or anything.

If it helps my PC specs are :

ASUS X54H Laptop
CPU : Intel I3-2310M Dual Core Processor - 2.1 GHz
RAM : 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz
GPU : Integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 / AMD Radeon 6470M 1.5GB VRAM
HDD : 320GB 2.5" SATA Drive - Split into 2 Partitions, C: Which is 125GB and has 83 GB Free - D: Which is 148GB and has 42.4GB Free
OS : Window 7 Home Premium

Any help would be great cause this issue is really starting to p*** me off seeing as i have all of my bookmarks on google chrome, and it is the browser which i use most and prefer.

Thanks Guys

Run an anti-virus scan

Trying that now, i also just tried uninstalling Rocketdock and Rainmeter.

Before i done the last System Restore i had this problem and so i started backing things up and deleting things and suddenly chrome started working again. I only remember uninstalling a couple games AND Rocketdock/Rainmeter before it started working again. Also i only installed those two programs earlier yesterday not long before Chrome stopped working so i thought they may have had some form of relation but it seems to only be a crazy coincidence.

Double Post :

Scan just finished and nothing, deleted 2 browser cookies though but that done nothing even after restarting my laptop.

Was a full scan and it was checking for everything. I dont know whats causing it but ive temporarily fixed it by deleting the google chrome folder from program files and re-downloading it. It'll only be a temp fix though and i know that it wont be long before it starts messing around again.

If all else fails, download COMODO Dragon. It's very similar to Chrome

As an FYI, browsers like Firfox can import bookmarks from chrome's files

Its a possible bug in an older version to a reinstall to the latest version couldn't hurt

I have the latest version at home and it started messing up too. I've shifted to Firefox until I can fix it

Yea i was/am on the latest version of Chrome and it was doing it, the only fix i found was to delete the Google Chrome folder in Program Files and then re-download it.

Personally, I would have done that before making a thread about it?

I was trying to see if anyone knew a way to fix it without having to delete it and re-download.

Happened to me one time. I just uninstalled and got Firefox. Haven't had any problems since.
