Title: Godd*mn SecuROM
Post by: Condor33 on June 12, 2009, 02:51:08 PM
I'm usually not the kind of person to make angry rant threads, but I feel this is deserving. I had just bought a copy of Homeworld 2, played it for about two days, and the found out that Electronic Ass decided it would be a good idea to put SecuROM on it. If any of you don't know what SecuROM is, it's an "anti piracy" software developed by Sony. What Sony doesn't tell you is that it buries itself deep in your OS where it shouldn't be and starts taking over your computer and screwing things up. Then it sends your private info to Sony. Then it shuts down all CD burning software and any third party system tools you might have. And as a final spit in the eye, you can't uninstall it without performing open heart surgery on your computer through command line and risking deleting something vital. Fearing for my system's overall health, I spent a good three hours trying to get rid of it. Not only that, I can't run the game without reinstalling SecuROM. Bah.

A: Has anyone else had this problem?
B: If so, do you know how I can run the game without installing SecuROM?
C: You probably shouldn't buy EA games for the PC, almost all of them contain this satanic blend of mal- and spyware.

I did torrented HW2 (Which only good thing is the graphics and the Vaygr) 2 weeks ago, and it works fine.

Never told me about some SecuROM.

that sounds dodgy as, they really cant be allowed to shut down burning software that was purchased legally ? and under the privacy act no personal information may be obtained without the users discretion... no EA games for me

Are you sure Condor33 that it is the SecuROM doing all this?

EDIT: Where did you get your info regarding SecuRom? Are you sure it actaully does all the things you claim it does?

I apparently have SecuROM on my PC too, but I'm not getting any of THOSE problems. Unless it's not fully installed or something.

It more or less dictates what works and what doesn't. Damn SecuROM.
