I think we can get to top 20. =)

Bleh, we need a rock band in this again. Lordi was pretty good, so we need something similarly over-the-top next year.
-
Eurovision?! Oh my God I can't wait!!! We're gonna beat you all!!!
Me IRL - Woop. Eurovision? Nah, back to Mock the Week.

GO RUSSIA!
-
According to this site, (http://www.oddschecker.com/specials/tv/eurovision/winner) Russia are 9/2 to win in some places. They also have a spinning Russian stove on the stage with them and that always makes everything better.
I'm gutted Israel didn't get through in the first semi final, I liked their song. Denmark wasn't bad either. Montenegro, on the other hand? Utterly dreaful. It was a tramp with some backing dancers. And Latvia was like the baltic version of Desperate Housewives. With added name dropping. Mick Jagger? Paul McCartney? Johnny Logan? Really?
And to watch the semi finals I use the Official Eurovision Website. (http://www.eurovision.tv/esctv/future) Extra bonus is no commentator talking over it.

I like Iceland's entry :) never forget but i think UK is going to suck this year oh wait they sucked last year too :(
-
Funfact: The last time we performed from the #1 draw spot, we won it with Brotherhood of Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykKNC6NjgMc#) and the main singers moustache. Engelbert doesn't have a 'tasche, but he does have some pimpin' sideburns. So you never know.
-
Ireland all the way!

Even still, take heart in the knowledge that we won't suck quite as badly as we did in 2003.

So... Sweden won...

I'm kinda disappointed, sometimes I can't understand what she is saying and so on...
Results, Top 5
1. Sweden
2. Russia
3. Serbia
4. Azerbaijan
5. Albania
My predictions were
1. Russia
2. Cyprus
3. Iceland
4. Romania
5. Sweden
-
My top 5 were, in no particular order:
-FYR Macedonia
-Russia
-Sweden
-Moldova
-Turkey
I'm glad Sweden won it. They just had the best song in my opinion. Surprised Engelbert did as bad as he did, though. He was better than Hungary, surely? Not winning material, admittedly, but it didn't deserve to do that bad.

Agreed, here. We definitely weren't going to win, but how did it do that badly?

Oh, I know. He didn't hit a single duff note from what I heard. Pretty good for a 70-odd year old.
-
Yeah, he did his best, it was a shame he got a bad position to sing and the song was never going to win anyway.
I think that there needs to be some restrictions on songs being released beforehand. Euphoria, for example, as brilliant and deserving to win as it was. Was released and had success in Finland, Israel, Estonia, Norway, Romania, Iceland and Belgium beforehand. Who, coincidentally gave Sweden 82 out of 84 possible points. Other countries which I thought could have done were only released in their home countries and didn't do as well. Like France, for example. They came 22nd. Last year? Same story for Azerbaijan. And before that? Lena had success in everywhere form Austria to Slovakia.

Hungary was one of my favourites.. They would've deserved to top 21 IMO. Also Shame that Switzerland didn't make to finals... =(
My 5 Favourites were
- Switzerland
- Cyprus
- Hungary
- Russia
- Macedonia

Why was israel even in this, isn't the whole point of Eurovision to be in Europe- Azerbaijan is pushing it enough tbh xD

It's whoever is in the European Broadcasting Union.

Theoretically Jordan, Kosova, Lebanon and Libya could participate.

All the countries hate UK/France/Germany/Italy/Spain and that's why we barely ever win
-
It would be interesting to what the standings would be like if it was Jury only for this one.

I think it would be more interesting to see the standings when people stop voting for the countries nearest to them (unless they genuinely prefer that song to any of the others, of course).

I vaguely remember it being discussed that the countries should remain secret until the votes are over. That would help prevent political voting that always seems to happen. Greece/Cyprus is the one I always remember.
-
Of course it would get blown out of the water when Ireland sends Jedward and and we are all left going "HMM I WONDER WHO THAT COUNTRY IS"
It would kill diversity in the competition as all countries would be trying to sound like everyone else to avoid negative political voting against them.

Bit of a late comment on this, but whatever
Was it last year or the year before that we came fifth with that horrible woman who yelled her way through songs?
Also, why did we send in Angleburn Humpherdick? Were we trying to appeal to people's funnybones?
-
We came 5th with Jade Ewan in 2009. We the tanked splendiferously with Josh Dubovie and the horrible "That sounds good to me" in 2010, coming stone dead last.
I think we sent Engelbert Humperdinck because he is apparently popular in Europe.
-
Okay, so three years ago. How badly did we fail last year?
Popularity is worth schitt when people vote for the country next to them. Britain has no neighbours
-
11th out of 25. So it could have been a damn sight worse.

And that's not even bringing up 2003...

Was that Gemini? They must have had tinnitus or something, it was completely and totally abysmal.

Correct. After I regained consciousness, I thought to myself- "That was indeed, completely and totally absymal"

I think this article hits the nail on the head. (http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=1&p=12323&title=the_uk_will_never_win_eurovision&more=1&c=1)
Also apparently Loreen liked our entry. So that's something.
