And how about, just for fun, telling us about some of your local tracks?

My local tracks (listed by race night):

Friday nights:
Callaway Raceway - Fulton, Missouri
My home track. It is a high-banked 1/4 mile clay oval.
www.callawayraceways.com

Saturday nights
24 Raceway - Moberly, Missouri
One of the oldest running tracks around central Missouri. It is a high-banked 1/2 mile dirt oval.
www.24racewayinmoberly.com

Lake Ozark Speedway - Eldon, Missouri
Newest track within 100 miles of me. It is a semi-banked 1/4 mile dirt oval.
www.lakeozarkspeedway.com

Montgomery County Speedway - New Florence, Missouri
AKA "Toilet Bowl" (in my opinion). It is a high-banked 3/8 mile (?) clay oval.
www.themontgomerycountyspeedway.com

Sunday nights:
Quincy Raceways - Quincy, Illinois
Oldest local track still in operation. It is a flat 1/8 mile dirt oval.
www.quincyraceways.com

Well that's most of my local tracks. So, what are yours?

My nearest is Birmingham Wheels owned by Grand Prix Karting. Thats Birmingham England btw, not Birmingham Alabama. It does a bunch of stuff. I go there for the 'arrive and drive' go karting on its small tarmac circuit. It also has a big tarmac circuit used for racing events, a tiny stock car circuit for very cheap stock car racing, a speed skateboard track, and of coarse a dirt track, which I think is mainly used for off road karting, but I'm sure I saw a load of sprint cars being trucked up to it once.

Good evening.

Thread Resurrection!

Since I brought up sprint cars, there seem to be more of you interested in talking about dirt racing.

DO'H! Knew I forgot about something tonight!

Prelude to the Dream just happened at Eldora Speedway back near my hometown, and I'm not seeing results anywhere.

I don't want to know the results of it. It will be on SPEED channel in less than 2 weeks probably. I'll just watch it then.

No oval tracks anywhere near me, nearest one more than 200 miles south. But, there used to be one near where I live.

It was called Altamont Raceway Park. We used to go there every saturday during the summer.

But, a few months ago, I found out it was closed. :(

fun fact: In my home town we had a track that is known as One of the longest if not, The Longest running Speedway Venues in the world

Sadly it closed down at the turn of the new millennium.. we do have a new facility though but its not in the same place.

I already know the winner of the race, thanks to my hometown paper.

DP

With the deaths of Jason Leffler, Tyler Wolfe, and a few other big names in the sport, plus Tony Stewart's season-ending sprint car crash, this season will go down as the most deadly year in dirt track racing for quite some time.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/motorsports/2013/08/06/sprint-car-crashes-accidents-deaths-2013/2623829

This is an incomplete record as it was compiled in August, and many major happenings occurred since then.

Sadly there aren't any dirt tracks near where I live. I doubt there's many in CT at all.

There's been a lot of them close over the past 10 years or so. There's a page on Facebook devoted to tracks that have closed called Lost Speedways. According to the page there's only one track left in Massachussetts and it's pavement. I wouldn't think the situation would be much different in Connecticut.

Edit: According to RacingIn.com, you are correct. There is a single dirt track, but it is a 1/10 mile go cart track. There are about 5 pavement tracks though.
