Convert ISO/VOB to WMV? (and some other stuff)
« on: September 17, 2010, 08:08:06 PM »
Does anyone know of a good program for converting ISO files to WMV's?  I have some ISO's I want to put on Youtube.

Also, is there a video editing program that can "stretch" videos?  For some reason, the picture on some of my videos has been streched out of proportion, and I'd like to correct it.

ISO is a CD/DVD file, you cant convert it like that, however, if you burn it to a CD/DVD or mount it with a program like Daemon tools, you can access whatever is inside the CD/DVD

I have a program for mounting it, but I need a way to split it into 15-min segments in a format that can be put on Youtube.

If it is a single or multiple video files in the CD then just open those with Windows Movie Maker an and chop them into pieces and render as new videos and then upload those.

The picture is out of proportion.  It's too tall and not enough wide.

Ok.  I'm having a problem opening them in Windows Movie Maker, when I right click the icon it doesn't give the option "Open with... (choose program), only "Play" or "play with VLC".

When I open Windows Movie Maker and select the mounted ISO, it just takes me to 2 empty subfolders marked "AUDIO_TS" and "VIDEO_TS"

ISO's are CD equivalents of ROM's, right? So, no, there shouldn't be a converter.

"VIDEO_TS" contains the video files you want, just open them with a media player.

Thanks Ian.

The file formats are .vob's.  Does anyone know of a program to edit/convert .vob's?

These are just fancy MPEG files. Rename them to .mpg, and most players should read them.

That is not 100% true...WinISO, MagicISO, PowerISO, and SEVERAL others can "open" them for regular use.

If the folders are empty, you have no video.

They only appear empty when I access them through WMM, I guess because they don't bother showing any files that are incompatible.

Also, can I fix my "stretched picture" problem by adjusting the ratio?  Any chance that would work?

Yea, I used a DVD recorder to record gameplay on my TV, and it would put it in .VOB format, but I did not get the 'stretching' problem.

The "proper" way of converting VOB files is
1) demuxing (splitting into audio and video)
2) loading that bitch up in VirtualDUB
3) configuring audio and video settings (to correct stretching, enable compression, whatever)
4) making sure that the audio isn't desync'd
5) exporting to a compressed AVI.

But I think HandBrake does it well, and is open source (= no spyware / bloatware).
