« on: July 20, 2010, 04:52:51 PM »
My computer frequently goes off for no reason, and i don't know why. The longer i turn it off the longer it stays on but even if it is off for a whole day it still goes off within an hour

You may need to bring your computer in to your local tech repair guy because it sounds like a pretty sever virus infection.

What sort of virus protection do you have?

Check your cooling fans....on the processor, and the video card/cards. If components overheat they will shut down the whole computer.
Also check for extreme lint buildup as that may cause overheating.

Either temperature on the processor or just some random virus.

YOu're definitely overheating if it takes longer to shut down the longer its off. Try putting a fam right next to the computer, see if it takes longer to shut down. If it does, then you need more fans in your case. Don't go for liquid cooling unless you have like, four video cards, it costs about 700 bucks.

Just one nitpick: you need to take off a zero for liquid cooling unless you're getting the unnecessarily expensive ones. Liquid cooling can cost anywhere between $45-90 depending on what you get for processors, and it's a bit cheaper than that for video card cooling.
