comdlg32.ocx is missing, the problem is I cant run many programs without it. I downloaded it and inserted it into System32 (no, not the user the folder) and tried to use command prompt to register it like many tutorials say to but now it says "The Module comdlg32.ocx was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c". Anyone know how to sort this problem? My computer is a vista home premium by the way.

Install this. Way less hacky than registering the ocx manually.

Done that, but it hasnt seemed to work.

Then your Windows installation is really messed up. I'd advise wiping out the HDD and reinstalling, hopefully a more modern OS (like Win 7).

Started working suddenly now, thanks.

Now its stopped working >.<

Have you tried system restore? I had a similar issue once and that seemed to help.
-
I recentley wiped my computer because of a virus, then put vista back on it. Would that count?
-
Not really. I had to go through Startup Repair multiple times before my old hard drive finally packed in, and System Restore is meant to set your computer up in a way that it was before the problem occurred, but sometimes that doesn't happen.
Another thing might be the CHKDSK (Disk Check) that runs sometimes when your comp starts up. If it does run, it may delete some of your files, and it might start finding bad sectors, which basically means that part of your hard drive has lost its magnetism and is more or less unusable. The trouble is, it is fairly easy to spread to other parts of your hard drive, and you sometimes end up with more bad sectors, and more lost files. If this has been happening to you, my advice would be try and limit the running time of your laptop as much as possible, and get a new hard drive, preferably with Windows 7 if you can.

It has nothing to do with it.
Also, your OS must be really full of crap.

Well that is weird. Maybe you just got a really nasty worm / adware / malware? Do you have anti-virus software? If so, what is it and whenw as the last time you scanned your computer with it?
-
I have spybot search and destroy and malware bytes, I'll do a scan now.

These are just antimalware. Please install Microsoft Security Essentials (free!) and do a scan, too.

All I found were two tracking cookies.

Has your computer ran a Disk Check during startup recently?
-
I dont know, I usually have my computer on sleep mode so I dont have to wait a long time for it to startup.
