I was just goofing around looking at computer tech junk and I came across this thing called Google Chrome OS. Not Google Chrome the Internet browser, but this-

-a new operating system that should be released my the end of 2010. It apparently pretty much totally runs on the net itself, and it has crazy fast boot times (3-7 seconds! :O). It doesn't really save anything onto your computer, but it uses the net for everything, even stuff like GIMP, but I don't know how the heck that works. This not-save-anything-on-your-hard-drive thing also supposedly eliminates viruses but who knows. It is mainly meant to run on netbooks and stuff since it doesn't have the power of Windows 7/OS X etc, but it does look pretty snazzy. I heard somewhere it's for free....but I'm not sure if that's true. I think I'll stick to my Windows', but I'll be following this to see where it lands.
Here's some articles if you want to learn more.

I don't feel secure saving stuff on the net.

This is not going to work, Google is trying to bite too big piece of the cake at a time.
-
google think faster is better... and nothing else matters
I believe Chrome uses a lot of history and temp files to allow it to load pages faster.. but I have encounter issues such as not seeing the updated website until I delete said files
it will be fun to play around with but the only thing I will ever install it on would be a Virtual Computer...

I don't like the sound of this one bit. It sounds insecure, unreliable, and un-customizable. Or at least, I don't think they let me manually modify registry, disable security features, or turn off history logging.
As for speed, fast boot time isn't going to make up for it's slow run time (anything over the internet can't be faster than loading off a hard drive). Plus there will be serious comparability issues with existing programs (like mac and linux).
Although my guess is that this isn't meant for a PC, but more for things like phones are other hand-held device.

It's just a Linux kernel with the Chrome browser on top. Made for internet-enabled netbooks, on which you mostly surf the information superhighway, twitter, facebook or whatnot. Not to be compared with any other mainstream OS.
Also, you are already saving a lot of your stuff on the net? Email? Forum posts? Photos on Facebook? All Chrome OS does / will do is sync your personal files with some sort of online storage facility, like Apple's MobileMe (ex .mac) or Ubuntu's One.

I have a developer's build of Chrome OS on my MacBook. While it's an interesting idea, I don't think it would suit my needs. However, it would be great on an iPad-like device.

I fail to see how email, forum posts, or photos from facebook are stuff I "don't" want to share.

If anyone wants to install the developer's build of Chrome OS, it's on the torrents. You can't directly partition your drive, though. You'll need to download something like Sun Microsystems' Virtual Box (which is free).
