Anyone know a good, free DVD ripper?

Does anyone know one? I'm looking to buy some DVDs that aren't from my region and I was wondering whether anyone knew a good one because then I could burn them onto a new CD and get rid of the region.

Why do people put these region crap anyways? It makes the dam company look bad just by doing that.
