Title: Adware Removal Program?
Post by: HurricaneAndrew on March 29, 2013, 11:10:13 AM
I am in need of an adware removal program and since I have never had to deal with adware, I need to know what's good.

Edit: Here is what I am dealing with.

I do use adware and spyware protection, but I guess it wasn't up to date and this slipped through.

Edit: Oh, the irony.

Malwarebytes
Combofix (Very good for adware, spyware and rootkits, I hear)
Microsoft Security Essentials

I had to uninstall/remove a Panda URL filter thing in the 'Add or Remove Programs' program for something similar.

Malwarebytes

I have it already. Didn't work.

Microsoft Security Essentials

lolno

I had to uninstall/remove a Panda URL filter thing in the 'Add or Remove Programs' program for something similar.

I did that for something called Browse to Save and it didn't do anything.

MSE isn't too bad, actually.

I never had luck with it.

I've been using a Firefox add-on called flashblock for several years now.
It works so well that I never realized I had ads like those, until recently disabling the flashblock to run a browser game.

It disables all flash in a page. To enable you just need to click on the screen

I use that in Chrome. It is a good tool. The problem is that these ads don't appear to be flash and it's actually some nuisance program on my PC.

I found my installer for Spybot Search & Destroy and it seems to have detected the issue and will have it taken care of shortly.

chrome ---> adblock+

I have Adblock+...

What don't you people understand about the fact that it's not a browser issue? Adware effects the PC and doesn't have anything to do with the browser.

It seems to have the same effects as a virus/trojan I had on my old laptop, which I got rid of using Combofix (per TRB's recommendation here (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=10563.msg562711#msg562711)).

I tried Combofix, but it says that I have to shut off my antivirus and I'd rather not do that when there is already something in my PC.

Found the issue.

It was an actual extension in that had been installed on Chrome. Adblock and Flashblocker will not override other extensions.

AVG 2013. It had never let me down until now.

can you trace to where the browser extension is in your directory and nuke it from there?

I had already found it, but it wouldn't let me do it from there. I simply uninstalled the extension and now all is fine.

I highly doubt that.
