Advice please.

I am going to get a new pc/laptop and am unsure what to get. I want to have a smooth running of RA2 and be able to do all the other computer stuff.  My price range is up to £800.

Any ideas?

Pretty much any new laptop or PC you get will run RA2 perfectly. It's over 10 years old and wasn't exactly massively demanding at the time.
You could probably get a pretty decent gaming PC or laptop for £800, not that I'd know. Here probably isn't the place to ask, go look at Amazon reviews.

Pc is better value if you don't need portability.  Read up on the graphics card in your computerwr and the memory and processor.  800 pounds buys a decent gaming PC.  You'll think you want a computer that just olays ra2, but you'll eventually want to playother games.  This, I say from personal experience.

dells arent that terrible, at least as far as price is concerned. you can run ra2 and you can do it pretty cheap. just be sure you read up on the model. my grandparents bought one where apparently they cut costs during the manufacturing process and therefore had the wrong screen battery built into it and would die within about a year of ownership. buyer beware

you can get some really good laptops used. go that route if you don't mind doing a little cleaning and some touching up here or there

Toshiba is very tough and survivable. However, you'll pay for what you get.

I would prefer getting a laptop as I may be off to Uni soon so but I don't know whether it would run smooth. Also I've heard that older games don't tend to run well on Windows 8, is this true? I would get a Mac but I don't know whether they RA2 runs on it?

You'll have more trouble with RA2 on Mac than W8 for sure.

my main computer is a mac. you can do a false partition to run windows and games for it but it's a bit of a pain in the ass and everything won't always work. i did it to my mac and i still use my boyfriend's desktop pc for robot arena because it's easier and more stable. the mac is a far better computer but for games it's not going to cut it unless you've got the patience of a buddhist sloth

I'm really not a tech bloke so what you've said there didn't make a huge amount of sense for me lol. A lot of people say Windows 7 is a lot easier and better with games than Windows 8.

Personally I like Windows 7 far more than 8, and RA2 runs fine on my Win7 desktop and laptop. Unless you're gonna get something with a touchscreen I'd say don't bother with 8.

RA2 works fine with Win 7 and Win 8.
It really comes down to your opinion when deciding between Win 7 and Win 8.

It's a Medion Akoya P6627, but if you have a budget of £800 I'm sure you can get a better one than that.

You'll probably have a hard time getting something with W7 in the UK, plus W8 will be supported for longer. I prefer 7 but at some point everyone's gonna have to let go, as with XP.
