A couple questions related to windows 7
« on: December 28, 2009, 01:11:16 AM »
Ok so in the mail I just got my free upgrade to windows 7. So far I haven't upgraded my vista. Why not? Because I have no clue how well 3d studio max 9, or Robot Arena 2 will work on it. I don't think either are supported. However I have heard of some sort of XP mode you can run, but I reason that that may lag up both of those, 3ds max and RA2. Could any body tell me what I should do? Is there anyway I can have the choice of the operating system on the start of the computer? can I run vista off a usb memory stick or a dvd/cd?

Thanks in advance

Nope, Ra2 ( thats what u mean right?) doesn't work on windows 7. i have tried it, and it failed. However, one of the windows 7 packs ( I think its the middle one) does offer an XP runner that allows you to run programs that work with XP. Don't know if it works though

Haha wow guys...

I'm running windows 7 with 8 different version of RA2. I'll admit, the fullscreen doesn't work. However, if you use a smaller window it will. 3ds Studio max 10 works perfectly.

I have never played on full screen after the first few weeks. I lags the computer when I open and close it, and one a smaller window I can IM or watch movies at the same time.

true, but does sorta mess up when you click out of the window? you know that thing where if ra2 is minimized, you can not attach wheels and stuff?

Never had that happen, even on my old XP and on my Vista. You have to press the windows button on your keyboard, then you can just click right back in when you want to.

Ok just because I thought I'd try so, I am trying to partition my harddrive for 2 operating systems. When I try to shrink my harddrive to make space for another volume, it only allows around 300 megabytes for some odd reason?! (my harddrive has 72.2 GB free) I have defraged my harddrive twice before that, and it won't let me shrink it over 300 mb. Has anyone experienced this? Google was being a pain with nothing helpful..........

Will have to try it out again.

What program are you using to partition it? I used Boot Camp and it worked wonders, but I don't know about a windows equivalent...

the stock vista partitioner thing. I am not really willing to trust a 3rd party program with such critical stuff

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM here. Nvidia 8500 graphics, Core 2 Duo processor.

RA2 works fine, both windowed and full-screen.
3dsmax 2010 crashes at startup, but it's probably because I'm running RTM (release-to-manufacturing, not the final version that is now out) or my dll chain is corrupted (it crashes on executing ntdll.dll for some reason).

I have the RTM as well. But the x86 version. 3dsmax 2010 runs fine.
