Recently, I've noticed a that generally, flippers are becoming fairly generic. Every LW flipper looks EXACTLY the same, and at the minute, flippers are being ignored in the major DSL mods, such as NAR AI.

So I therefore give you... SkAI High (name is a pun on "Sky High", fitting AI into the phrase)

I plan to make a small, flipper-based mod, consisting of just 15 teams to begin with, to try and increase originality in flipper building in DSL
It will consist of remakes of the 15 teams from stock, Red Zone, PREHISTORIC ect. I am doing this to force original building.
I will accept teams from anyone, but I will advise on how to improve, and slihtly modify bots to improve performance (at the discresion of the original builder). I will be happy for people to make a team with other members.

 - Remakes of the 3 (LW, MW & HW) stock bots
 - Three bots of your choice (LW, MW, HW or SHW), they must be flippers!

I will not accept AW, BW or UHW (AW & BW are too light for flippers to be made effectively, and UHWs are too big & laggy)

Yes, I am hoping that having to re-build Grog the Warrior as a flipper will increase originality :P

funny thing actuality the second expansion to Backlash is.. well kinda under construction (I know strange inst it) and was to be called "Airstrike" and introduce burst motors and super powerful flippers.. but I have pretty much scratched the idea and decided to stick with spinners as the focus (and maybe projectile :P)

so this sounds kinda cool.. massive wedge war.. but cool..

Diablo (Remake of Devil) as a Full body flipper/rammer.
Coal Extractor (Remake of Coal Miner) as a FS/Flipper Hybrid

I tend to be a bit more picky having studied/ completed courses in Graphic Design...

I dont mean to step on toes here, I will have a play around myself if you like but let me give you some tips/ feedback encase you want to try it yourself again...

your images are stretched (the warning stripes) thats a big no, no for a non vector image.. you would be better to tile it (I have seen that image before from google :P) it is possible to tile it.

the light blue on the splash is to conflicting and in your face.. you can break it up with another colour between it and the stripes but the bight clean colour against the "dirty" looking warnign stripes doesn't work IMO.

do you want the DSL references to be included or done away with all together?

Well, the pack is still DSL, some DSL references should stay (hopefully :P), but I was hoping for it to still have a reasonably large "contrast"

I know the warning stripes are pixelated, I will try to fix that

I'm a bit worried how Diablo is going to get under anything
I would like to see the flipper be more of a main weapon in CEU
The last three are excellent!

Manic mutt & bulldog, use skirts for the flippers (or a snowplow), and use metal hinges
I can't judge Big Dog untill I have it

I wouldn't mind helping with some bots or UI stuff.
All teams are filled up now, but help with the UI would be useful :P

Since then arrangements have been made, and all team spots are now taken, since it appeared that you no longer wanted to do this, I put myself down to build North Polers in replacement, and I have already made a few of the bots

Big Dog's Chasis is HUGE and it only has one large JX, on a HW, this isn't nearly enough, I know you can build SO much better than this
I hate mags, but as explained before, bsg's are MUCH better, place the bsg's on top of the chasis and they won't annoy you
For a larger scoop, EFFE two scoops together, I will post a pic soon, and if you're going to remake it

I meant not to judge how good a wedge is based on the stock DSL bots because most of them use skirt hinges.

Goldfish--Rammer/flipper rebuild of Hammerhead Shark.  Nothing great, but it works
CHUD Runner--Fullbody flipper rebuild of Blood Runner. 
Pooh Bear--Forward flipper rebuild of Grizzly Bear.
 
I'm also playing around with CHUD Runner 2, Bud The Chud Runner, A SHW version which is a really bad idea that has many glaring weaknesses, but I've had more fun driving it around the arena than any other bot i've ever made.
 
Oh, and an as of yet unnamed bot that is a piston flipper.  Not effective at all, but you asked for originality, so I'm trying. :P
 
I gotta build one more and then i'll have a team for ya.

I'm not having component skins, bar the NAR AI bsg, but some more UI help would be great

I'd like to use Joe's background for the whole mod, as it looks great :D, but if you could help with all the ingame buttons, like the deathmatch, battle royal ect, that would be fantastic

Seriously though, IMO Small JX Flippers are better than beta flippers cuase they retract quicker, which is quite important fora flipper

All arenas are implemented into the game, and those not wanted have been hidden

The text color you have in the sig images looks really nice and classy and much better then the bright orange, I'd suggest making the actual UI the same way you have done the sig.  ;)

Just a thought...

It would be nice to have an arena tailor made for this pack,
I was thinking of an edited BBEANS tourney arena 2, with the spinner removed and a pit should be in its place, the same size as the cage surrounding it, and about 3/4 of the depth of the cage wall. Two of the flippers removed, and the remaining two made thinner, like the width of 20cm DSL bars. I don't know how hard this would be, but I imagine a lot easier than making an arena from scratch?
If this isn't too hard, I wouldn't mind if someone made this themselves or taught me how to do this (I don't want to just demand things from people :P)

We're already doing Re-Stocked... why are you using the same names for bots if they won't resemble the originals at all?

Also, Vertigo, in the original game each team only had 3 bots, not six. I can't remember which AI pack edited that (starcore?) but if he's redoing the originals than it's only 3 bots.

I'm having re-makes of the stock bots to increase originality, hopefully having to re-build Grog as a flipper should acheive just that, otherwise I would end up with 30 LW dual bsg flippers :P

This is in DSL, so its six bots per team, the teams should consist of the three re-builds and 3 "extra" bots

A LW with a JX that can chuck stuff for miles

That's half of it.  You need collision lines, but if there's an obstacle in the middle the AI has to drive around, you also need POVs.


You can just copy the CollisionLines and POVs from the BBEANS arena and modify the coordinates to fit the Onslaught Arena.

Update from my end.

Team HEX has had the LW updated and a prototype for Hanky Panky has been built. But does not look much like the original, although it is a weaponed flipper with irons like the stock version. Could be changed to use spike strips like the DSL one, however.

The 3 extra robots for HEX have been built, all Front Hinged flippers called 'Frontal Assault xx' and can be seen in my showcase, bar the third version.  FA 2 and 3 are similar and I'll let Vertigo to decide on which one to have. There is an extra Front Hinged flipper waiting if he chooses only 1.

HEX LW (not Ai'd)
HEX MW (Ai'd)
HEX HW (Not sure about it yet)
FA 1.5 (Not Ai'd
FA 2 (Ai'd
FA 3 (Being Aid)

Three XTRA bots have been completed. Forkie has a particularly elaborate flipping device and Stingray is a LW with a large JX, it is also a diamond. Barbour's Shop (name?) was the first completed and is a different type of flipper. Strictly speaking it is a twinned disc HS but has no real weaponry, just flipper segments with beaters on he end to flip bots over. (All not Ai'd)

The Havok team will consist of 3 key bots. Havok 5 (Fist beta flipper) Havok 13 (First dual beta flipper) and Havok 20 (Best one yet, and last).
The other three will be lightweight or odd versions of Havoks. Includes a LW Havok 13, The Havotic Duo (in the exchange) and Havok 1.

H13 (Ai'd)
H20 (Ai'd)
LW H13 (Ai'd)
Duo (Not Ai'd)
H1 (Not Ai'd or found, might have to be H2)

Yeah right, some of the wedges in this pack are awesome, I highly doubt a newbie has beaten them first shot

I disagree, when this is complete, there will be 19 teams with 6 bots in each. Thats 114 bots

There will always be a bot in there that gets under yours, I've made wedges that slide under Fat Rat but somehow lose to Hope No More...

Its the weight of 3 battlepacks and 6 ants.

I find that more weight on the front, better the wedge.

(Thats why Havoks are that shape. On a weight friendly 2 beta version and no (chassis) wedge, it couldn't out wedge a MW Havok)

No, what I mean, is that he just placed metal hinge wedges on his bots. He didn't just use one bot, unless I read it wrong. Some of his bots outwedge some of the bots in here, others do others. It is always possible to make a bot that outwedges another, even if it is difficult with some bots. Somtimes it just happens, due to the randomness of metal hinges.
