Cheers lads. After this weekend I'll be working on downsizing the poly count and (sadly) remaking a couple of arenas because they're too high in poly count and get the buggers exported!

The arenas called 'The Death Facility,' named by Craaig. It's a cross between the Magazine Death Zone arena from the first page of this thread crossed with the combots arena. There's two oota zones either side on the LCD screen behind low walls and because of the lack of space outside the arena, some robots can save themselves and get back in, much like combots! Good for an interesting HW tourny if someone wants to use it in future.

Defiantly getting rid of a load of the DSL arenas. In the list i made which i think is what we are generally sticking to there are only 3 left.

Realsim is a key point, however its not over riding. The main thing is the arenas need to be interesting in themselves, with tactical usage of hazards and no overbearing features.

Good example is Cave will go, because it needs a flat floor to have a fair competition. Electric Arena 1 also has a rather big unavoidable hazard in the middle (the tazer type grill), when you have to stick to the edge of the arena its not the kind of fighting we are going for.

Few other ones need serious consideration for either being to basic, needing a complete reskin, being to similar to other arenas, or just simply because they dont play well. We dont want any weak arenas, they need to all be strong to a degree.

The "Hazards Enabled" checkbox is a thing for a reason and what Thyrus said. Use that and you can turn off that giant electric grid and it's just fine for an arena as it gives loads of room to fight and is more than a traditional square box. Plus if at least two bots are on the grid, then it won't do anything at all. The realism I would agree with you on that though. Not quite sure if that would work in real life or not.

Oh yeah. The new Arena. Looking fantastic. Two questions though:

1. What's up with the images being reversed? Graphic mapping error?
2. Who exactly took the first snapshot in the post?

Garfie was using the electric arena as an example. It's a stock arena so we can't necessarily remove it but I'm in the same mind as Garfie about it, it's either too much box with hazards on or too much vibrating buzzes with the hazards on.

Redace, I took the first snapshot off my mobile. Didn't spot mirrored logo textures either side of the screen before. My fault!

Sometimes you can't have exactly what you want all the time, and might even have to put >3 minutes work in to get what you want, unlike this example. Quit moaning. Please.

Some of us want these arenas tbh. Thats what made RA2 a bit different. Can we possibly have a list of which ones are removed?

It's really not hard to add any missing arenas back in, it's not like removing them from the mod means deleting them from time and space. I have no idea why anyone thinks it's such a big deal, just be happy that we're getting some new arenas.

Before people start panicking. This mod uncludes a collection of other custom arenas and components released over the years aswell as our own. This is the mod where all the stuff you weren't allowed to use in tourneys before become allowed.

Having such a large collection of everyone's productivity over the past decade means a lot of MBs. And considering the new RW components take up more MBs than DSL we've had to drop the custom stuff that is deemed as not good enough or pointless (like reskinned copies of arenas or arenas that cause massive lag or crash... Like the cave, mars and onslaught arenas for example).

If you want to keep the old arenas. Just install them onto a clean copy of RA2 Then install the mod afterwards.

We are now mostly finished with the Robot Wars Live arena, and have exported it into the game for testing.
