Originality: Lots. Realistic bots that are good is nearly unheard of.
Playability: Plenty. I like the fact Redbirds were use effectively.
Difficulty: Not much. Decent popups though
Addiction: None
Features: Good
Patches: Patches?
Comments: Most of the bots could easily be beaten, so I'd ask you to make tougher bots.

Hey, Giga, need some help skinning anything?
Title: RA2GE + Awesome Patch Feedback Poll and Discussion
Post by: Gigafrost on November 27, 2008, 03:04:06 PM
Sure. I really need some ideas on a new UI. I was thinking about a kind of classy look (lots of swirls and dots). Reskins of the stock components would be pretty awesome too.

Well, I have several component reskins that are really cool.  Let me see what I can do ......

Ah I forgot about Sage (not really), He is also in the pack as an unlockable character I believe. I can use his component skins as an unlockable when he is unlocked (With his permission.)

i 'm coming back to RA2 stock so i download Starecore and Rage 2 in separate areas.

I've not been very far in the use of this RAGE pack, but what i can say yet is that it is well-named :
AWESOME !

I am very impressed by the amount of work ! i feel dumb in front of what yo've done,

 congratulation ! Bravo !

PS : I feel dumb but i have a question  : in a post in this thread, Sys32 talked about 'Realistic bots'? are they all realisitc ?

yeah, most of these bots could be made in real life.

Any work needed on the skins, Gig?  I'm sorry i haven't been around lately ..... had some major issues going on, and dealing with them......

Thanks for the compliments and "bump" guys.

Yeah Spy its fine, send me anything if you can.

I've been busy lately so apparantely i haven't been working on it.

@phil - To be honest, I never thought of realism when building them, but i believe that most of them can be built in real life. I purposely made them easy (leaving extra space, using grey extenders, etc.) to make beginner builders feel comfortable. A very good pack to use before trying starcore.

Standard stock bots are for newbies only,

RFS bots as easy

i would qualify Rage bots as 'challenging', not so easy, and a very good pack to use before trying starcore indeed as you say.

and starecore bots as 'hard'

Someone on Youtube named "battlebotsboy" is doing tourneys with the RFS bots. They are nearly worse than the stock ones.

Hey, at least he's trying.

Hmm. Kinda like the Alphasim tournaments, only different bots and bad quality.

Edit: I like it. the first tournament with fully AIed bots AND Commentary. Somebody tell him the wonders of fraps and SCv3.

Seems to be more bugs in the CODEMASTERS system then you intended.

The passcode to change to the stage 4 events doesn't seem to work, and stage 3's Chrome lock 3 passcode doesn't work.

Other then that, great. :)

I think he knows about the site. He has downloaded alot of things from it. Example: In one of the vids it showed him having a ton of arenas. one person asked "How did you get so many arenas!!??!" And he immediately said "Gametechmods".

Yeah, but being an ass on his vids isn't good advertizing. Encorage his videos, then convert him to the dark side of the force to overthrow obama in the NEW GRAND UNITED STATES OF ACAMS!

Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5wc6tKIc58

See how easy a few nice words can convert people, I've just realized why Christianity is the most popular religion.

There are no bugs, I made sure of it. If you downloaded and applied the Awesome patch properly to a clean copy of RA2GE, all the codes should work perfectly. All the codes are case-sensitive and character sensitive. So if you leave out letters it wont work.

This issue however will be much harder to find with a exe extractor doing the job for you all in the next version.

That's interesting. Believe it was correctly installed.

Copied the codes right out of the Event files and those ones I mentioned didn't work.

When in doubt, check it out:

http://www.gigafrost.webs.com/

The main reason behind the website was to help it install correctly. Look towards the main page before stating a problem and read the installation readme files! After you install everything in the proper order, I guarantee you, it will have no errors.
This website also has valuable bug fixes, so if you downloaded your copy from gametechs- IT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Weeks and weeks after, i finally unlock a first level.
and i think i progess in my stock building.

here are the more challenging bots ( my point of view)  from the firsts RAGE teams.
I strongly invite new stock builders to download that pack : not as hard as Starecore, it is a good middle level pack.

I think oTTo has better wedges than the Canadian bot. :P

I only found oTTo's team and HyPe's team challenging, though. :D

So, as i told before i have now a new pack of event, a beautifull practice arena (that remenbers me something..) and a pink background.

and i thought i will have to change my AI pack from the one waiting under 'my unlockable'.
but it seems that not !?!

will it comes later ? when i will have win the season 2 events (6 years later) ?

well, i'm an average builder and a poor driver. In this way, the bots i meet in your pack are very challenging, and i have done many and many battle (about 100 !) to get about 5 codes (T and Emu).

btw, i improve a little my building skill now and , after so much events, i investigate the file teams.txt to select each time at least an event that may bring me new code (the fun is to 'win them' not to pick them from events.txt).

https://gametechmods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1705&page=4

improvment : for someone who really don't know much about RA2 i think the prizes should be more commented : where should one put the file cement_background.bmp (ie under UI / commons) : this is not always well explained.

Indeed... I did not have neither the 'technology' or the know-how to do such a thing at the time. With the LU project things will be different- way different.

I did think that event placement would be a little bit too much for novices, hence is why I will upgrade the AUS to implement .EXE applications with the release of LU. The user will simply click on the unlocked part, and it will unzip itself into the proper directory. I have yet to find out if making a "congratulations! you unlocked such and such..." script would be possible in-game. I might need help from Mad on that one.

having done the second stage, it seems that your reskined Hilltop award get problems -> black screen than crash system, all others are fine... but what a huge work to do all of that ! it should have take you more than a year .

Well, so I have finished RA2GE and here is my feed back.

First of all, a quick tour of 'What is RA2GE'

This is a pack made by Gigafrost. It defines a new set of Aied teams.
You're invited to play event (the one you found under Team HQ -> <> -> Event Scheduled)
Some of these events bring Code (called TCode or Emu Code).
You keep trace of these codes in an Excell File.
With these codes, you go in the 'my unlockable' folder and may decrypt
special gifts (use the free program AxCrypt for that).
gifts may be background, repaint arena, bots, icons, etc. Mostly all of the part of
RA2 are so redefined by those awards.

RA2GE My way
about the bots :
Gigafrost's bot come with a wild variety of difficulty. Some are very easy to beat, other
may give you more difficulties : remember that all your bot are human driven, this point
must be taken into account.
In fact RA2GE bots form a challenging 'starting' set of teams for beginner : hard, but not too hard.

to finish RA2GE you must win about 70 codes. This mean (if you ever win all your fight) about 300 different fights, triple if you lose from time to time ! : after a while, it starts to be a little boring to meet always and always the same bots, for this i made a compilation of STOCK AI packs that brings variety,
Teaser : https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/UserManual.rar (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/UserManual.rar)
to download this compilation of Stock AI pack, go there :
Quote from: philetbabe;68257
Here is it All in One STOCK AI Pack : gigafrost, Starcore, MadScientist, etc

Other point, some events brings Code, some not. In a season under RA2, you have 9 events selected randomly from a set of 24.
founding those codes may take time : if only one code is missing and the associated event is not selected, you must finish (forfeit) all the other events, expecting the next random selection to bring you the event you want. It takes time..
this is what i did :
first i edit the file RA2/events.txt : adding a "*" after each event title that may bring code : Thus i know
which event i should do if i want to win code, and which one if i just want to test my bots.
As long as i win some T/Emu code, i re-edit the file event.txt to suppress the '*' : no more need to fight this event.

Second : when i know that there only 2 or 3 event that still may give me some code, i force RA2 to select them in my event list : this is done by setting the number of my selected event in the file RA2/teams/Teams.txt
 (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/76148select your Events.png)

It is useful to note the TCode/EmuCode in the Excel file delivers by Ra2ge. But  sometime, the code is not easy readable under RA2, so, when I win one, I edit the  Events.txt to get it and copy it in my journal.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/15239le Journal.png)

The Good Points
what's entertaining is fighting events with a goal : winning TCode or Emu code : there is a progression : 5 phases to win, this is a good motivation.i've made hundred of fights ! meet many and many LW, MW, HW from various teams, that was a great time.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/30424WhatA Joy.png)
As almost all RA2 interfaces have been relooked, it is always fun to discover which gift comes with which code. BTW, this is some of the Most important job ever done
in a single pack : arena, background etc :i don't know if GigaFrost have been help for this but i'm really stuck !

Things to improve
-for sure, newbie won't know how to install the gift. Well this thread is here to help them.
-some TCode or Emu code seems not to work :
Stage 4 : Revision Tcode: fancystuff
Stage 3 : ??? EMUcode: nvr4sakn
Stage 3 : Purple EmuCode
Stage 5  :  ??? EMudeCode

I did never get the Legend EMuCode : file missing ?

There is a really ugly background (but all others are nice) :
