question
« on: May 21, 2009, 11:06:16 PM »
Ok, we all know I'm a noob and I'm going to ask another noob-ish question. I saw on youtube someone had Diesector. Diesector came with the battlebots downloads bots stuff. However his components and stuff arent there. I don't know how else to explain this but Ill try. All those battlebots that come "pre assembled" have a .bot file. Each file seems to be put into the "Robot Designs" folder of the ra2 dsl upgrade doo hickie. All the bots in the folder have a .bot file. Robots such as "Alarm" and "Backlash" appear and are playable but Diesector does not have a .bot file. He has a folder with a diesector.gmf diesector2.gmf diesector3.gmf and a folder entitled "maps" and inside is a picture of him "a real picture not a game picture" as a .bmp file. How do I get a .bot file of him. I tried simply putting the folder in the robot designs but that doens't work. I don't know what else to do. Can someone help me out? Yes, I know I'm a noob.

.gmf = part files, those were supposed to go to components folder(move the whole folders they are in not just the .gmfs) and I think there were some txt files too? Put them in the components folder too too.

No. The three .gmf files were in the main "Diesector" folder. And the only other thing was the "Maps" folder with a .bmp picture in it. There weren't any text files or any other files period, thats what I don't understand. Do I just take the .gmf files out of the "Diesector" folder and put them into the "Components" file?

No you take the Diesector folder and put that in the Components folder. The txt files are outside of the Diesector folder, those need to be in the Components folder aswell, othervise you wont have the parts in the game. Also I would like to make sure, did there come a Styles folder outside of the Diesector folder in the package? If so, move that to Components folder aswell.

Diesector comes with the "AU Battlebots v1.1" in the downloads on this site. There are 37 other folders in the components folder of this v1.1. One is also the Diesector folder. Thats all. No text files are present in the components folder. I searched through other folders but I don't see them either. All the folders have the same thing. They come with some .gmf folders. And no there is no Styles folder. Download the v1.1 yourself and see for yourself. Unless I am absoultly just missing something. I downloaded it several times even though I was sure that wouldn't change anything.

Ok I just downloaded that same pack and here is what you need to do:
Unpack everything into your Robot Arena 2 main folder, doesnt need to be DSL (I think).
Just note that this replaces just about everything so you should make another copy of your game and unpack this into that new copy of the game.

Ok, I copied the game. I put all the components from the download, into the components into the game. AI, arenas, Sounds, teams, and UI folders, took everything out and put them in their same folder in the game. The two cfz files and text document entitled Events_2player.txt were just put into the game folder itself. The ace uplink folder I put in the game folder itself since there isn't an ace uplink folder already in the game folder so it may be in the wrong spot. I fired the game up, the sounds are different and the picture before the game gets to th main menu when starting up is a different picture but there isn't any of those components. There are I think three empty spots were in the weapons category and clicking on them caused the game to stop and return you to windows. I think there was one empty spot in the the extenders as well. Still, none of these components are in the game. Did I do something wrong or is there more?

Yes you did wrong, all you needed to do was to extract the files from the AU Battlebots v1.1 into your main RA2 folder and replace everything if it asks.

And ofcourse the sounds and pictures are different, it is a mod like DSL.

The empty areas are supposed to be the components, but something went wrong so they are like that. I have a few of those in my game, I just dont bother about them and dont click them.

EDIT: I just tried to make a premade package for you, but even extracting it to a clean RA2 caused there to be empty places, so someone else needs to take over from here, I dont konw what to do, maybe something with those cfz files...

I did, i replaced everything like you said i was supposed to. I took each and every folder and put it into the game folder and its the same. What did I do wrong?

Are you able to use the components and stuff for the diesector and stuff?

Eish, the exe loooks to the txt file to make a slot for the component in the game.

TXTs:
A. Sometimes they are open txt files in the 'Components' directory, and
B. Sometimes they are compiled into a cfz file in the main RA2 directory.

Diagnosing:
1. If you have a gmf component in the 'Components' folder but it doesn't show up in the game, it's because there is no txt for that component (the exe doesn't see it).
2. If you have a component slot that has no component in it, then you have a txt but no gmf component for the txt to direct to. Thus it will crash if selected.

Not quite sure what you're looking to do, but here try this (since AU is custom anyway): DieSector
I decompiled or just made some txts for those components a while ago(don't remember which). Install only these files in the 'Components' folder.

BTW, Thanks, SSG.

.
Input is appreciated. :)

I put the text files in the components folder and then the diesector folder containing the gmf files in the components folder also. Most of the other components seem to be that way. They all have the text files inside the components folder but outside the folder they support. Its still not working though. You said the text files are basically like the instructions to run the gmf files? Do the text files need adjusted or redone or anything? Or prehaps(which is quite often for me to do with this game) I didn't do something right?

I didn't open the cfz of the AU 1.1 tweak. So I don't know which txts are there, or if you want any other than DieSector. I am only answering the issue about DieSector.

Both the component file "diesector" and the 3 txts, go in

c:....\Infogrames\Robot Arena 2\Components (and no deeper).

This WILL work. I don't know if you're still using the AU tweak for other things, so I can't tell you about the rest of what you have. But understanding the above you can figure it out yourself.

If you've more than DieSector problems, then IM me on MSN.

Input is appreciated. :)

Let me know or just try me later.
