Being kind of bored by the stock DSL AI, namely because there are few rammers, and nearly no VS/HS in the HW division, also no face spinners, nearly no popups (if i consider Samurai and Shogun like something close to a popup)...  I am creating a big DSL AI pack.

And i need YOU for the US ar... eeh no, for participating.

-All of the Stock rebuilds updated or entirely rebuilt (if a chassis rebuild is necessary).
-All of the replicas dumped and replaced by team-specific bots.
-Teams sent by builders Starcore style
-New UI
-New AI.py's
-Slow mod releases

HOW TO PARTICIPATE ?


You can participate by sending bots.


First, if you feel like one of theoriginal designs (All of the teams that come with DSL 2.1, exceptedBBEANS Champions that won't be updated for nostalgia reasons) couldbe better and if you want to rebuild/update it, feel free to do soand send me your version. I will take a look at it and if i'm happywith it, it'll be in.


Second and more importantly, i amasking whole teams of the DSL building community. So, you can send awhole team of bots.


I will ask for a few things though.


First, please send you team in a RAR tome (PM on Gametechmods will be faster). The RAR must contain your 6bots (named from Bot0 to Bot5, it will simplify things), a correctlyworking .bmp for the picture that will come with your team, and a.txt with the bindings, team name and motto. However, if you havefinished your bots you can still send them before the rest, so youwill have a place for your team in NAR AI. Please also name your RARfor easier understanding – a thing called "AI2" isn'tgoing to help me since i don't get the bots directly in NAR AI whenyou send me the team. Get something like "BuilderName-TeamName"would be much more helpful.


Feel free to send updates of yourprevious teams as well, i will gladly accept them if they are better. Please send the bots you want to update (or bindings) all at oncethough, and in the same format as teams.


Yes, i am asking you to AI your botsbecause you probably are the ones that know how they work better andheck, it's your bots, it's your controls. If you REALLY are unable todo this due to little free time or not knowing how to AI a particularbot, i will.


I also want to keep NAR AI a challengeand the hardest DSL pack ever, so i will be picky on the bot buildingskills - if it's not well built enough, it's not in. However, i willprovide advice and feedback on your teams and might even tinker withyour bots a little and send you my versions.


However, NAR AI isn't only made ofkillers and i know that. An original/creative/really cool bot will beaccepted even if it's not really battle efficient... as long as it'sbuilt well enough.


As long as you put enough work on it, iwill accept all the teams you can do as i bet no builder will send me10 straight teams.


The first three bots (Bot0,Bot1,Bot2)should be respectively LW/MW/HW like Starcore. The other ones can beany other legal bot class – though if you really want to sendanother team setup than LW/MW/HW i will not reject it.


The classes are : Antweight (less than125.0), Beetleweight (125.1-175.0), Lightweight (175.1 - 249.0),Middleweight (249.1-399.0), Heavyweight (399.1 – 800.0),Superheavyweight (800.1 – 1200.0), Ultraheavyweight(1200.1-5000.0). Also, for non-Stock bot classes, you will need toput "AW-", "BW-", "SHW-" or "UHW-"just before your bot's name for no confusion (Though you cangenerally guess what it is when you're looking at the bot !).


Now the bots must be NAR AI - legal aswell. This includes :


-No cheatbot2 parts or customcomponents. One single exception for this is the hovercraft engine.You can perfectly send a HW/SHW hovercraft bot, mostly for laughs(see Pon2n, Crazy Experiment and Destroyer FHP), but i will be stricton these, and really only accept the good ones.


-Ballasts are strictly banned. Theyfail so much that i removed them from my game. So no.


-No underweight bots by more than 10kg(Hell, 10kg is a lot on the lighter weight classes... try to build asclose as the weight limit as possible)


There are a few building rules as well.


-No overlapping or stacking Power orMotor components (excepted the smartzones of course) unless yourdesign could be implemented IRL. I will allow a little marginhowever.


-Extenders and extras can overlappretty much over everything if you would be able to cut a hole onthem or paste/bind/weld them in real life without the thing fallingoff (Example, abusing the multiextender's collision mesh and puttingit through a battery is allowed as long as it's not completelystacked in).. No stacking however (that is, 2 components at the exactsame place or one component inside each other)


-Moving components can intersect partly(and only partly) extenders/weapons/extras if you could cut a slot onthem in real life without the thing falling off. Motor or Powercomponents cannot interest any moving thing if it is an extender andit really does interest slightly (if you could cut a slot in theextender IRL with the thing still working correctly, it's alright)


About out-of-lab building techniques :BFE is allowed in a few cases that i will explain right now. AAM andZeroG are not.


-Changing the chassis shape/height withBFE is fine as long as you don't get baseplate-attached componentsout of the chassis (Motor axles don't count however, notably thevertical E-Tek's that you can get out of the chassis if you want) andas long as the shape is realistic.


-Breaking up collision meshes as longif it doesn't breaks the other rules and could be implemented in reallife. Example would be putting an ant battery between the 6-Mag'smotors, getting a component closer to a BSG than the stupid collisionmesh would allow or even a static component through a large staticdisc (if you could make a hole in the disc).


-You may not create new attachmentpoints through BFE or attaching a component to the baseplate if itcan't, even if it is realistic (as components attached to thebaseplate are invincible, this can create huge loopholes)


In any way, BFE use CANNOT broke therules i stated before and cannot be used for giving a major andobvious advantage to the bot (aka no components attached to thebaseplate via BFE when they normally can't be attached to thebaseplate, even if it could be done IRL). I will decide if your botis legal or not in case of doubt.

Yeah. I don't want to spend 30mins waiting for a SHW to load, and to try it, and to AI the beast, and so forth...

put in a RAR all that:

-The pic you want to use for your team

he can easily make it so you have both the original DSL AI along with the new pack. my DSL game has 90 teams total in the AI folder (most empty, 6 used for RAW, 20 for original DSL, SCv4 minus first 20 teams, and some random ones)

DOAM and Rage III. It did get pretty unlucky, and it regularly scores over 1000 hits with the blades. It was just ill fitted for the bots it faced.
One bot went 100+ mph, and the other got to the semifinals. That sounds pretty unlucky to me, I could update it though if you want me to. I would put a wedge on it and remove some batteries.

If it is the Tank Tread Brothers team, shouldn't it be the original Tank Tread Brothers?

Do you even realize that 4 cutting DSL teeth for a MW horizontal spinner is weak weaponry ? Even Hostility II has more HP in it's weapons. Perhaps it could have won one or two fights with really lucky matchups.

Oh, that's right, you have a lot of experience in DSL.

somebody i AM 70CUDA  im not posting as much the last few days cause my net is in and out. you try not working on this for 6 mounths or so then tell me how hard it is to relearn how to make great bots lol it  anit easy. no i have been messing with python again and thinking about finshing the battle field arena me mad and spy guy were working on when i left. btw naryar will you want arenas for the pack. i could add new and diff hazards to the stock for a whole new felling as well if you like that idea.

I'm surprised there's so few teams. Looking at the numerous thread under DSL showcase and the quaility of the bots build, i thought this AI pack will be quickly filled.

Perhaps you should promote this community work by engaging the bot builder to contact you when they show something good.

too bad if this project gives up.

My robots aren't paticuarly good, in comparison to everyone elses, but I certainly think they make a break from the norm xP
My point is, even if they aren't super special awesome, will they be accepted? And what about the realistic rule? Does it apply?

And yes, i DO want good (or well-built for original ones) bots.

That pack is made to bring moar diversity but also a good challenge. Mako, Smashbox and Shebeast added pretty much of a challenge in DSL 2.1, but these are just three heavies.

I'm actually upgrading the battery setup of some of your bots (mainly Hazmat's and Joe's) because 20kg black batts = evil, and i don't want you to change them for so few.

It is okay for you guys?

Announcement: I'm going in vacation in the middle of July and am probably going to work on the AI pack while not here. So just send your teams please. If i got a subsequent number of teams (like 20+) i will release an Alpha in september.

I might also bring changes to all of the AI. Notably rebuilding most of the DSL original AI to make them more efficient, rebuilding the Rookies and extra bots, and probably even replacing the replicas with bots i will build in the team's continuation (ants and beetles notably).

I could get some help with this also... that means you could submit a bot alone, either a rebuild or an entirely new bot team-themed, that means no rammer on the Red Zone team and no flipper in the Megaton team, etc.

I got still something like 35 bots to update.

For the NAR AI pack Alpha, (release date by the end of the week), it will have all the updated DSL AI bots rebuilt by me. (That is, all the first 3 bots of the 15 original teams, and all of the Robot Arena Reincarnated ones). They will not have any chassis rebuilds, and some of them are already fine and will not be rebuilt.

For the NAR AI pack Beta, (release date in September), it will have all the completely rebuilt DSL AI bots by me, as well as all the bots/teams that have been send to me before i leave (beginning of July).

Any feedback ?

But LW... in no way i can make that a poker/hammer hybrid like the original then.

Or i could dump the hammer - poker/hammer hybrids suck because both weapons don't work together.

Also my first release will not contain the RA1 Reincarnated team, but it will come later - sorry guys, lack of time.

Recall of what makes a bot legal :

REALISTIC RULE

-No bots that work on a glitch (Trinity, nasty pickles even if no one uses them) or too glitchy (i will restrict moving flail weapons).
No spin motors on burst motors or servos (burst enhancing).
Chaining allowed on the limit of 2 chained motors.

-I will not allow battery stacking or servo/snapper overlapping, but i will allow a small margin: if the components just barely - BARELY - enter in each other without affecting the bot IRL it's okay (e.g. a multi-extender slightly intersecting a motor or a battery.

No weapon overlapping either, but two weapons can slightly intersect if and only if they are static. If it could be implemented in real life it's fine.

-All wedges are fine excepted if they violate the next rule.

-Moving parts cannot intersect other moving parts, and can only intersect partly static parts if that could be implemented IRL (a saw passing through a skirt hinge like in my Battle Scar is fine because it's in the chassis and the skirt hinge could be cut into two and fixed at the side without the attachment), but a saw passing completely through a sheet is NOT fine), that makes the wedge of Urjak's The Devil's Cherry technically illegal as well as Somebody's HW hammer heads.

-Attachment or armor static parts (plastic/metalsheets, baseplate anchors, snowplows, extenders ramplates, shell spinner parts, etc) can intersect each other freely because they could be bound or welded (or cutted for a hole) IRL , but cannot stack. Weapons can also pass through these (as in Top Dog, Bad Dog and SnowJob)

Remember, if it could be done IRL, it's fine.

-Also you CAN edit the bot file for lowering the height under the game's limits (like in the Arthrobotics team) and making cool chassis (see Goose's donut bot). However, components that are supposed to stay in the chassis must stay in the chassis (like batteries, control boards, Magmotors, baseplate anchors, etc) - like the batteries that can get partly out of the chassis : nothing of that.

That's fine, i don't need a pack full of killers. I just want relatively good bots.

There's already Scavenger which fails at fighting but is mostly for originality and cool looks...

Hi, are you still looking for teams?  Also since I am still quite new I am not too sure what the following means

Note that disc SnS/shell spinners that nasty pickle if the disc is removed (Feeblemind) are allowed - it is bots that do rely on the nasty pickle glitch that are not allowed.

Well i just wanted to say i was leaving my parent's home to go permanently (i will come back the weekends though) in the town where i study (Strasbourg exactly), and at the place i sleep at, i won't be able to connect to the internets (In my university i can by Wifi) - my holidays end the 14th september.

So i'll spend less time on the forums - but that doesn't means i'll stop building. The NAR AI v1.0 fix will be released in one week, and the v2 release date will be Christmas 2009 - no delay. Expect me to enter all DSL tournaments as well , and all stock works (KOK, this month's BotM, ACAMS's robot design thing with a gay chassis, and RAW 2, and the team for Inf); but excepted that don't except many stock things for me...

Oh and i am sorry, but servo boosting bots do work on a glitch, and as such not realistic and not allowed in NAR AI, like Trinity bots.

no problems i was just playing around :P

but I do have a serious team thats nearly good to go, its a mixture of 4 flippers and 2 spinners right now

LW - a rather powerful flipper
MW - unsure as I was going to use loaded dice but its untested
HW - a shell spinner
other 3 - a renamed Evolve as a SHW and then likely Gamebreaker and Playmaker my SHW cluster bot

That is weird. Feeblemind's FBS.py works VERY well in my game, it chases the opponent while spinning in ellipses.

Well... my criterion for top10 DSL builders are first sheer building skill(DSL knowledge and how do you apply it), second efficiency (how did you fared in tournaments), third creativity, fourth building experience (roughly how many bots did you built) and other more advanced skills like AIing, .py's, BFE so no luck for you bud XD

1st- Naryar (since i kept being outwedged i am not sure)
2nd- R0B0
3rd- Urjak
4th- Reier
5th- 123STW
6th- Mike
7th- Ounce
8th- Pwn
9th- Click
10th- Scrap

But for creativity you're in top3, dont worry...

You guys better hurry for sending in your teams, or they won't appear in NAR AI v2, relase scheduled by end of December.

I am always accepting teams, but if you send them too late you won't see them appear until next September, and as the game will be balanced, some of them might work a little differently than expected.

I am being laxist with the deadline now, but it won't last forever !

S32, I think it's just because Nary takes his building vvvvveeeerrrrrrryyyyyy seriously, and that he builds a lot of gutrippers, which are heavily reliant on wedges.

I somewhat agree, though.

I agree.  Back in the days there are only 2x metal hinge/2x 120 angle titanium skirts, 56kg total.  Nowadays to consistently win the wedge war you need 2x bsg/6x flipper segments/2x small wedge, that's a total of 88kg for a wedge that breaks on impact.  Since the only bots you have to worry about not getting under happens to requiring upper wedge (say skirt hinge on titanium sheet), that's another 35 kg.  So you essentially have 123 more kg to work around the wedge with.  It shouldn't be too difficult to come up with something that does.

I guess you guys can be the judge as to rather or not me and/or Joe are successful at doing so once NAR AI come out.

Yeah, so just an official announcement.

As said, NAR AI v2.0 will be released on January 10th. It will have 8 teams built by me, and at least 18 new builder teams (Trumpetguy, Scrap and 123STW said they were building a new thing), for a total of 66 teams minimum !

Another official announcement.

NAR AI v3.0 - I am planning another release in June, but it will NOT be the actual mod i said.

I will accept more teams by you guys (R0B0 !!!!), but i especially want to focus that release on updates. That is, i most likely won't build a lot of new teams, but will rebuild/update most of the v1.1 bots.

About the NAR AI actual mod that i promised, it will be released at the end of 2010. It can be September or next Christmas, i can't predict anything now :P
