Important DSL 2.0 Info!
« on: August 26, 2006, 12:31:51 PM »
If your graphics are messed up:

Download the nVidia UI fix for DSL 2.0.

If you have the downloaded version of RA2:

Download the no-graphics version of RA2, to be released soon.  This is a hopefully temporary solution until I figure out how to make the graphics work for the downloaded version.

The following is copied from the Readme file for DSL 2.0, for your convenience.

Installation instructions:

Note: You will need WinRar (http://www.rarlabs.com) to extract the files.

1. OPTIONAL: Make a backup copy of your Robot Arena 2 folder.  Do this if you want to keep a stock version of RA2.  Rename it to something other than Robot Arena 2, such as "RA2 Stock", and move it out of the Infogrames folder IF you reinstall in step 2.

2. Obtain a fresh (no modifications, such as AI packs) copy of Robot Arena 2.  You may have to reinstall.

3. Apply the official 1.2 patch from http://www.robotarena.com, if it isn't already applied.

4. OPTIONAL: If you made a copy of your stock RA2 earlier, move it back in the Infogrames folder.

5. Open the folder called "dsl2" that was extracted from the .rar file.

6. Go to Edit>Select All, then Edit>Cut.

7. Go to C:\Program Files\Infogrames\Robot Arena 2 and go to Edit>Paste.

8. A window will pop up asking if you want to overwrite files.  Select "Yes to all".

FAQ:

Q: Do I need to install DSL v1.0 and 1.2 before 2.0?

A: No.  DSL 2.0 is meant to be applied to a modification-free version of RA2.  However, you can just as easily apply it to DSL v1.2.

Q: Do the new updated stock AI replace the old replica AI?

A: No.  The old AI is still available.

Q: How do I use the special parts on the replicas?

A: They are hidden because they are either too good or too useless.  If you really want them, try entering 'cheatbot2' as your robot name - but remember, that's cheating!

Q: My bot doesn't seem any stronger even though it's supposed to have 6x armor strength!

A: The armor isn't automatically updated on your bots; you need to reapply it to get the extra strength.
___________________________________________________________________

What's New in 2.0:

New Components: Antweight parts, E-tek Drive motor, Dual Perm 132 Gearbox, Beater bars, BFFF Flamethrower, and more!

Total overhaul of old components' hitpoints, damage, damage normals, connection points, and descriptions.

New Arenas: Stunt Arena, Ocean Platform, Hamster Ball of Doom

Updated Arenas: Blade Arena, Drum of Death arena, Onslaught arena, Cave arena

New Real Robot opponents: Beta, The Judge, That Darn Dustpan!, Hworf, Ruiner, Vertigo, Bob, Tornado Mer, Bulldog Breed, Dominator 2, Heavy Metal Noise, Buster Blade

Updated Real Robot opponents: frenZy, Overkill, M.O.E., and more!

New stock DSL opponents: Red Zone, Prehistoric, etc.

New AI: Improved rammer AI, computers don't gang up on humans.

New Armor thickness options: 1, 3, 5, or 10 mm.

All armor is six times stronger than before.

Total overhaul of game graphics.

All-new realistic sound effects.

All-new game music by DiE oXide.

Total overhaul of league events and descriptions.

Errors in v1.2 fixed.

A few hidden easter eggs...
___________________________________________________________________

Known Issues:

If you apply armor and then go back to the armor menu, it will show you as having 1 mm armor.  If your bot is near 800 kgs, it won't let you reapply or upgrade your current armor until you apply 1 mm or lighter armor.  It does not affect the game, it is merely an annoyance.

Flamethrower weapons only work while you are driving.

Using tank treads will require you to reverse your robot's controls.

The Mars Base arena still doesn't work on nVidia video cards.

Some graphics may not display correctly on 640x480 resolution or resolutions greater than 1024x768.  800x600 resolution is recommended.

the download should really have the FAQ as a readme.txt file or a link to this website (if it already does ignore this)

How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

No bump whacking. Also I think we should change the instructions because that is way more simple.

Thanks for bumping a 5-year old thread idiots.

Well, not only you are randomly insulting people which are just commenting or asking questions, BUT you are bump whacking to no avail.

Bump whacking means blaming people only for posting in an old thread. They have done nothing wrong. You on the other hand...

That's a personal attack AND a bump whack at the same time. *JUSTICE FIST*

Do not do it again, or I will be forced to smite you harder.

And Joe, you can lock it, but no cleanup ! Wolfsbane needs to understand what he did and why it was wrong, and it must be kept for a while as an example to others.
