how about another version for compressor arena in the dsl tournament arena where the compressors quickly drop from the ceiling in certain parts or the arena . Idea 2 a tug-o-war arena where robots pull your attached by a rope and you have to pull the opposition into the pit full of tires or chainsaws or other hazards

The Racing Arena has actually being tried. There must be a way to use the KotH script to make a decent system, but robot racing has been abandoned because of no valuable ideas.

If it is possible to cause the game end after someone has the decided amount of points, then a race track is possible to make, you just set the game to end after someone has 10 points as you get 10 points in king of the hill every few seconds

I know how will this arena happen more easy...
You set time like for example 3 mins and after the first bot cross finish line the wall is fall fast and lock him in finish area and other bot stay outside without points but for the bot inside counting begin and after the time is over he will have lot points but other 0...

SpyGuy has been collecting arena ideas from members for a while now so if you want more ideas ask him (my ideas are in it).

An easier way to make sure that the bot that crosses the finish line wins is by telling the arena to kill the loser otherwise you could also add points based on how much time it take for each bot to cross the finish line (the longer it take the less points you get in the end) or subtract points until you reach the finish line (this would allow you to fight the opponent in the hopes of gaining more time to finish the race)

I would make the arena more like a NASCAR track with hazards (have the start and end locations be the same) so that you can have an option to change the number of laps until victory.

Possible hazards/power-ups include:
-a forward thrust for bots that drive over a panel
-spike walls
-temporary immobilizer
-oil slick
-temporary infinite power and CO2
-electric floor zone
-fire floor/walls zone
-minor health increase spots (will only increase once so that bots don't stay on it and gain continuous health increases)
-power-ups for each individual bot's weight class

Why don't you make and release the race track arena as you described and then worry about different kinds. I would like to see an arena like that.

start simple. like i made a mod to the combat arena that had a bunch of fire above the floor so if you had a flipper then it was a 1 hit kill. that didnt make it easy though. lol. its a lot harder to start out with a BIG project. find a mod indea you like and work out from there.

Huh, yes, it has been done into the DSL Cave Arena. I guess you modders know how to do it...

Im just a builder, but will go into AIing soon. Reading the .py bindings is interesting.

But i dont have much time so i must concantrate on one areana...
This means all you must help me choose a really cool for all areana...
If someone offer me team work for arena i want to build a Colosally cool arena, i want to push areana building to theyr limits...
Anyone interested to build unseen thing together ?...

I was actually thinking about your ideas...
The vertical (dropping) 'Compressor' has been done by Firebeetle's 'Small' arena.
The Tug-of-War one is a good idea, but you'd have to attach the 2 bots somehow...  Pushing each other from a central platform off of the rearward edge might be a better idea.
(EDIT: Another thought... You could make a gmf object that would have 2 inverted, open box enclosures, one over each bots starting point, that were connected.  This could be native to the arena gmf, or inserted.  As soon as the buzzer sounded, they would both try to pull each other into the pit of hazards:

Personally, I like the race idea.

I would have the idea of using the Racing Arena, and put at least one KotH-type zone, to gain points. Perhaps several zones into the arena, so the race-leading bot would gain more points that the others. And in each zone, a hazard that does not makes instantaneous damage (like a killsaw), but rather wait a second or two to strike. This for avoiding players that would stay immobile on the zones to gain a lot of points and win the race.

That racing arena might actually be a really great idea.  It depends on how the AI pathfinding would work.

Firebeetle recently made some code for the "Custom" game mode where the AI imports a list of coordinates, then follows them with priority over the normal attack routines.  Basically they drive on a set path and don't attack unless you hit them.  It's used with an updated Drag Race arena, which is coded so that as soon as one bot crosses the finish line, all the others are eliminated.  Snow Job is suddenly the ultimate challenge.  (Still needs a bit of tweaking though so don't expect a release soon.)

The KOTH approach could have some advantages over FB's method, most notably that you can't score points by attacking, the Hill has AI priority over attacking, and it wouldn't interfere with any existing arenas (FB's code interferes with the Batman arena and Hamster Ball and others in DSL).  I'd like to see how it would work.

As for the arena with the saw blades closing in, Firebeetle already tried something like that.  He tried to make a Trash Compactor arena like in Star Wars, where the walls slowly close in, but it didn't work because bots can always push the walls back no matter how heavy and powerful they are.  So, sorry but that idea won't work.

How about a tabletop arena where parts of the floor can break off the further you get into a match or the more damage they take, so the tabletop keeps getting smaller?

CB: I was thinking of having a Hazard of some kind collapsing, not the walls; maybe saws, fire, laser beams (hehe). So 'force' wouldn't be an issue this way.

K-3: Though it's still beta, I did manage to make an arena without a 'set' (permanent) arena, but it is only inserted and thus changable,  Thus the floor shrinking could be done this way pretty easily.  Not thought of this kind of Hazard before.  Cool.

So all you say that this racing arena is 100% possible to make... (the arena shape must be simple to help bots get to finish)
And you like my idea ?
But are you sure that the way of winning mechanism ( this with KotH and fast drop wall on finish) will be the best ?

But damn i really need help in arena building...

Well then, thanks to FB, the problem is solved.

The theory is :

Making a race arena with the Koth coding, and in this coding just swap normal win conditions (points) with the line crossing win condition, and put the finish line in the KotH zone... the AI will then follow the KotH coding and go for it, then Firebeetle's code will activate and the first bot to be in the KotH wins.

The coding to determine the winner of the race is not a problem guys.  Guiding an AI to race you instead of fight is more involved.  I think this was CB's focus,.. gettting the AI bots to RACE from A to B without any SKIRMISHES on the way...

Hmm... Perhaps there could be some code input put into an interaction with the bot itself than just the "checkpoint" of the arena in terms of avoiding fights? I remember a while back that CB (i think or Starcore) was talking about a type of code that can allow the enemy bot to avoid you instead of attack. This can probably be done, through constant x,y position checking between the AI and the user, or with the AI being programmed with thinking that you are a hazard instead of a foe. Maybe there can also be a similar method with this arena? I do not know if it is possible...

Actually FB just pointed out a problem with using KOTH for racing: there's no way to keep track of laps.  He's pretty confident he can make a racetrack with laps using the code he has now, so that's a definite advantage.

ok im new to this i have NO clue how to make a map but i have an idea
it will be a tabletop arena that has a border ow realy high walls,but they fall on touch and dont come back up.
the walls also bounce your bot at a high speed to give them a warning.
there are also indestructable cyllendars that pop up randomly and leave in about 5 seconds and have the same affect-they fling you and every 30 seconds fire enrages and pops you up like this:

note that the corners and arrows arent part of it its just a diagram of that fire pops up and shoots your bot and reduces its health to 70% if hit.
the fire gets smaller by the second and it stays once it hits 1:00 time played[if u did 3 mins it would have 2 mins left]
once the fire is too small 4 your bot whoever has the most points[and is still alive]wins.
if u and a bot are trapped in the fire,whoever dies first loses
there i think i got it all 'o.o
but im happy to have said it :-D

Flash, I've received a couple dozen pics for arena ideas now, but I cannot make heads or tails out of your pic.  It sounded like an interesting idea in the text, but in this case "Your words are worth a thousand of your pictures".
If you can, try to put a little more effort into the pic.  And who knows, if it's good someone might take your idea and make it happen.....:wink:.

Seeing a whole lot of talk, but not much in the way of results here, guys ........ When Madiaba and I were cranking on an arena idea, we got it DONE. (DSL Garage/Warehouse/Hall of Fame)

Am I gonna hafta come back and start kicking a$$ and taking names?

Venko, I appreciate your comments on the arena and coding it, but I don't even think that that kind of arena is practical, esp. for AI. The turns for the AI are difficult. An oval track would be easier
But a straight Drag Strip would work well. I wrote a new AI.py code for ACAMS dragster to run on a straight Dragstrip, with the engine spitting out fire at idle [1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2] and then flaring out at full throttle. Needs a few more minor tweaks and then beta testing....
The present Drag strip arena needs camera and lighting work. The camera can either follow the user (1st person), or it can be coded to sequentially "auto-switch" down the track as the contestants make progress...
Time, as mentioned, is a problem right now....

Idea for Venko's Race Arena... Dindt read all posts but i rea dthe first page (And some otehr) So IDK if someone said this already...

After someone passed the line... The whole arena behind the line could "Disappear" and letting the bots fall into the black, Eliminating them, Or just a HUGE wall falling over, Immovilizing them, Or Special saws that do extreme damage falling till everyone dies besides the winner :P
