Title: DSL 2.2 AP Improvements
Post by: 09090901 on February 21, 2018, 05:10:06 AM
From talking with a few people it seems there might be some willing to give this a try.

If you've ever used the DSL 3 beta you'll know that the offset AP was fixed by having a single motor model with attachment points on both sides. These never made it into 2.2 as it would have interfered with 2.1 bot compatibility. To avoid this, the older NPC motors are set to cheatbot2 and the updated motors are technically a new component, so current DSL 2.1/2.2 robots should be 100% compatible.

The updated motors however are not backwards compatible as they are technically a new component. The updated motors are a different shade to help differentiate.

Credit to Clickbeetle for fixing them in the DSL 3 beta. Back your files up in case something goes wrong/I messed up somewhere.

Final note: I don't have Click's permission. I do have Kill's however, which tbh is more than enough for me

So do the fixed NPCs have the same stats as the 2.2 versions?

Simple edit, but hopefully will make building slightly less AIDS, and also help make the larger batteries a little more viable. The battlepack wiring fix isn't exactly perfect, but the wiring is one-piece with the shell and the thing has like 20,000 vertexes soo f that.

There's separate versions for vanilla 2.2, and also for DSC's IRL pack (which I assume is what the majority of people are using). No skins, .txts, or anything else are included, gmfs only.

Your current bots should work since I didn't play with the original attachments points, but no guarantees. As always, back your stuff up incase one of us messes/messed up.

Credit to the DSL team (for making the original models), and to DSC for making IRL pack 3 (fancy skins, and they're designed for the IRL pack layout).

I think I know enough about 3D Modelling to help you out with removing the wiring from the Battlepack. PM me the 3D file over, and I'll give it a shot.

errr he doesnt have any 3d file for it aside from the .gmf file that is in every copy of every dsl game so unless you've figured out how to import a .gmf file in a 3d modeller and then out again its pretty much the biggiest pita ever since as geice said the wires are part of the shell which has like 20,000 vertexs and who knows how many mesh faces.

Thank you, apanx! This is exactly what I needed!  :claping

Alright, so, hard at work on removing the wires - should I keep the indents where the wire go in, or patch them up?

UPDATE:

Okay, removed the wiring from the Battlepack model, but when trying to convert it to a GMA, I'm getting this error - any help?

Is this just a case of dragging and dropping them into the components folder and letting it overwrite?

"Look, ma! No wires!"

After some fiddling around (and some much-appreciated help from Apanx), I was able to get a version of the Battle Pack without any wires! The texturing on it is messed up, but I'm pretty sure that not having wires sticking out of the side of your bot will make it more than worth your while.

awesome work Geice, FOTEPX and apanx. We should put this in a pack as soon as it's finalised so it can be adopted like the IRL packs.

edit: Requesting added APs on the edge of the armour panels

A bit late to the party here, but

Worth noting: The reason I didn't include the DSL3 NPCs in 2.2 was not just a compatibility issue.  There is a bug with upward-facing Base-type attachment points, where if you try to place a component over it, the cursor (and component) snaps to the side.

Try to put a battery above a DSL3 NPC and you'll see what I mean.

This also happens with Magmotors and a few other things, but is less noticeable because they are smaller (or so big that you will almost never put anything above them, in the case of E-teks).  NPCs are big enough that it becomes a huge chore to place anything above them with upward-facing base attachment points.

i feexed eet :dumb)

Seriously, this took -WAY- more effort than it should've. I had to practically re-design the entire mesh from the ground up, textures and everything, just so it would be cool with me and my OCD standards - seriously, that original mesh is an absolute trainwreck. Either way, it's sorted now, looks beautiful, has a nice crispy HD skin on it, and hopefully'll be added to this pack in due time. I might make my own version of this that's compliant with this pack. In the meantime, here's the download!

Finally, after a delay of only 13 days, the multicoloured versions of Battlepacks are available! Don't have a fancy splash image to show off this time, so you'll have to install it and find out! Ooh, so cheeky!
