Title: DSL BBEANS AI
Post by: Clickbeetle on January 05, 2011, 10:14:03 PM
UPDATE:  The pack is released!  Link: http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/files/dsl_bbeans_ai.rar (http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/files/dsl_bbeans_ai.rar)

It's been a long time (some might say too long) but it's nearly here!  I just have to put all the files together and possibly make some in-game events.

(Yes, I put some orange in the background UI so I didn't have to go through all the .gib files and change all the highlights and text from orange to green.  Sue me.)

Here's the breakdown of what you get in the pack:

- All 128 bots that competed in BBEANS2, 4, and 6
- 31 additional bots that were replaced, disqualified, or too late
- The Electric Arena 2 and both versions of the BBEANS Tournament Arena
- New music used in BBEANS match videos (not the same ones in the stock pack either)
- Of course, a few easter eggs (but they are WELL hidden this time... you won't be able to find them just by looking through the new files  ;) )

And a further breakdown of the teams.  Some are recycled from the stock AI pack, others are totally new:

(Bot order goes LW, MW, HW, LW, LW/MW, LW)

The Champions
"No time for losers, 'cause we are the champions!"
Death of Angels 2, Hazardous Contraption, Smashbox 2, Death of Angels (original version), The Hummingbird (drum by Sage, replaced with DoA)

Second Place
"Not quite good enough for the championship... but more than good enough to beat you!"
Infection 4, Enfilad3, Mako, Angle Grinder (juggler by Pwnator, replaced with Ion Thruster), Ion Thruster (VS by Pwnator, replaced with Infection 4)

Team Clickbeetle
"All Clickbeetle's bots."
Bisector, System Flailure, Fight or Flight

Team Firebeetle
"All Firebeetle's bots."
New Ruin, Red Tide VI, Blue Moon, Blue Ruin (original version of New Ruin)

Blood Orange, Haymaker, Stratosphere

Lords a-Leapin'
"That's one small step for me... one giant leap for you."
AntonYYYm, T-4, T-One, AntonYYYm 0 (original glitchy unrealistic version of AntonYYYm), T-4-0 (original version of T-4)

The Supreme Court
*BANG BANG* "ORDER IN THE ARENA!"
Primal Instincts X, Ham-mer Sandwich 2, Ordo Malleus, The Mini Warrior, Macro (original version of PIX)

Excessive Force
"Like getting run over by a bullet train."
1.8, Rage III, Greenpierce, All Or Nothing, Go Betty Go! (overpowered HS by Barbie, replaced with Go Barbie, Go!)

Team Facepalm
"My face.  Your palm.  Go ahead, try it."

The Red Green Team
"All you need is the handyman's secret weapon, duct tape."
Killer Green Yoshi, Red, Red, Green?, Red Red Red, ReActive (because it's green and there are no other bots with "Red" or "Green" in the name :P)

Cutting-Wedge Technology
"All the latest in wedge-based cutting up of bots."
Missile Test, Psyco Sweeper, BatmobileAI, Hredder 6.6

Dark Horses

AtaxiA, Layziee, All Torque, Flux, The Strike of a Ninja

House of Mirrors

Nature's Fury
"Red in tooth and claw."
Predator, Thumper, Dog Collar, Tomcat II

The Chrome Domes
"Round, shiny, and anything but smooth."
Mutant Kabuto, ThunderStruck!, Maulinator, That Spike Thing..., Sabre

If you don't see your bot (or any bot for that matter) on that list then post here.

Also, how many people want new BBEANS-themed in-game tournaments in the Team HQ?  I did some for the stock pack but I don't want to bother if nobody really cares about it... I can recycle all the prizes from the stock pack so making them in DSL won't take long though.  What do you guys think?

Nice, CB...  Done some work here.   Thanks much for your efforts. :claping

It's very nice to see the effort still put into this game.

I'll check it out when it comes out (or before if you want)....

And about Cirque de Malheur, it is OK but Cirque du Malheur sounds better.

Edit: Wait, it's not released yet ? Damn. Oh well.

Yes, I agree that Cirque du Malheur sounds better, but Google Translator gave me "de" so I wasn't sure it was proper French.  Will change.

It will be released probably within a week or so, I just want feedback on the inclusion of in-game events and to make sure I'm not missing any bots.

You might want to make a poll for the BBEANS-theme in-game tournaments.

Personally I don't care. It's a cool addition, but really it's only candy and serves no practical purpose.
Title: Re: DSL BBEANS AI
Post by: JoeBlo on January 05, 2011, 11:47:08 PM
if you want my opinion I have never played in game DSL tournaments.

its only really fun with realistic stock robots fighting the original AI.. otherwise repairs are too annoying..
Title: Re: DSL BBEANS AI
Post by: Naryar on January 05, 2011, 11:51:30 PM
Indeed, repairs are good on component-low robots (like stock AI) but when you start to spam razors or have 60+ components on a bot...
Title: Re: DSL BBEANS AI
Post by: 123savethewhales on January 06, 2011, 12:16:24 AM
Yeah........  When it comes to in game tournaments, it's heavy components all the way.  The repair cost is the same rather you are repairing a DS light or a 70kg sledge hammer.
Title: Re: DSL BBEANS AI
Post by: Clickbeetle on January 06, 2011, 12:58:30 AM
Well I'm not really looking for a majority here.  I'll put in the ingame events if there's even mild interest since it's not that much work.

I know very few people do them (I don't know how long it's been since I did one), but it does make for a unique challenge and requires a totally different style of building.

In fact now that I think of it, it would be interesting to make a "Ingame Tournament Challenge" thread where you try to win ingame tournaments against Nar AI or Starcore AI.  With non-popups.

That would be especially hard for somebody like me who only built one bot type ever

Ministry Of Silly Names. :gawe:

I did actually have a stab at the ingame tournaments in Stock BBEANS AI. It did get quite annoying when you ran out of time on your razors. But then that was all that people ever used, since sledges were worse than useless in Stock. I think it might be a bit better in DSL, with the wider variety of heavy weapons available for effective use.

actually was my original idea for Backlash Online

have a passcode or such shown at the Golden Sawblade screen and race to find it out and submit it

only problem is everyone will just look in the files themselves and not bother playing..

Agreed.
The thing with the tournaments is that I'd probably do them quite a bit if it wasn't for the repairs bit.
Is there any way to deactivate these?

Nope, I'm only using bots that were actually intended to be used in BBEANS at one point in time.  Otherwise I'd be swamped with updates and I'd never get the pack done.

And it looks like the ingame tournaments WILL be done since at least one person (GK) wants them!

Edit:

In fact now that I think of it, it would be interesting to make a "Ingame Tournament Challenge" thread where you try to win ingame tournaments against Nar AI or Starcore AI.  With non-popups.

You could put the passcode in a trophy gmf... make the trophy out of unskinned (so you can't just look at the .bmp) letter shapes.  It wouldn't be foolproof as anyone with component knowledge could just make a component out of it, but it would take a bit more effort.

What happened to MNB's and Pysc's BBEANS6 late entries (you said they could send their planned entries to this because they missed it)? Did they ever send them?
Title: Re: DSL BBEANS AI
Post by: Somebody on January 09, 2011, 06:01:45 PM
Hahaha I remember Zizza. It wasnt that bad it had 2 JXs and TWM3 Drive with vlads and a sawblade on a piglet at the back. I cannot remember if I sent you the one with the ant sawblade or thepussycat blade. I think that its the ant sawblade sadly.

Fun fact: My first robot robot game was Battlebots: Design and Destroy, and nearly every bot I built in it was named Zizza.

I never got those bots.  They would have been included if I got them.

In other news, I finished it!   (First post updated.)

Here's the direct link: http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/files/dsl_bbeans_ai.rar (http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/files/dsl_bbeans_ai.rar)

I'll make a section for it on my website later.

Just apply it to a clean copy of DSL 2.1 and it should work.

(Note: Read the Readme for directions on how to get The Hummingbird and What Sheck Spinner? to work.)

Also, some last-minute stuff I added in:
- 6 new ingame tournament events: BBEANS2, 4, and 6 1-on-1 and Rumble events.
- Lil' Eager V2.0 (original Havoky version of Lil' Eager V2 which I had to give a bigger chassis to fix.  This brings the total number of extra bots up to 32.  )
- Changed a few orange highlights to green on the bot select screen.  (It needed a bit more green than just the background.)

I gave it a quick run-through on another computer but didn't test every aspect.  So if you find any errors then post here.  Everything should be there though.

Do you have Flipper.py?  I didn't include it because it comes with stock, but if you just put in the AI folder that comes with the download and didn't paste over a stock AI folder, you won't have it and Atomic (along with other bots) will crash.

I think I might just put in all the py's if I update the pack with Sage's team description idea, so those with computer knowhow can have a ready to go AI folder they can just swap in and out.

Click, will there be a BBEANS 7?

Yes, but still not for a while because there's a bunch of other stuff I need to do.  For one thing, I think it's about time I got back to DSL3.

The final was Stardust vs RP2 vs Bisector vs BWMS, through some miracle Bisector won.

How did Mr Punch do?
It didn't compete because to use an even bracket I only used the 64 actual competitors

in a special wildcard rumble however it came second, losing to Mass Oppression.

Second place in the Wildcard? Not bad, considering I built it in about twenty minutes

Hmm that reminds me... it seems that no one has found the easter eggs yet.  ;)

Mission to make them more difficult to find than the SFTW easter egg: accomplished.

Unless no one has simply bothered to search.

That's just a new "prize" you get if you lose in the finals in some events.  Not really one of the main easter eggs.

Lol, I really made this hard, didn't I?  Well, someone will find them eventually in the course of modding their game.

Sounds like you got them all right.

Out of curiosity how did you find it - in game, or stumbling upon the right files outside the game?

You haven't used the updated DSL. Those versions don't have the additional APs on Perms.
