its what you limit it to in the FRAPS settings, I limit mine to be no higher then 30, there is not really need for any higher, that would explain the large size of your videos for doomed bots when your uploading

No, not really, for WMM limits the video down to 25 FPS soo yeah.
I will give it A try though, But 60 fps just looks smoother to my eyes than 30 fps

television ranges anywhere from 25 to 30 frames per second :-D

also on the file size the way WMM works despite limiting the source file size does effect the end product, I have tested it out before :-D and youtube destroys it anyway so there isnt really any sence in longer upload times

I don't know the biology and science behind all this, but from personal experience I have to agree that 60 fps videos looks smoother than 30 fps.  I don't think it's placebo since I didn't even know what 60 fps meant when I first watched it.

as I said to doomkiller, WMM drops it to 25 regardless, the file size would just be bigger, it only would make a difference if you started playing around with slow motion..

Quote from: Serge;56866
I think 29.97 FPS is the best (NTSC framerate).

Quote from: Serge;56983
I think it's the best mainly because it's high enough to make a video non choppy, yet low enough to not make the video too big.

unless you watch your recording straight from the FRAPS file (which media play will Lag) there is going to be no visual result except for the file size

Actually a higher FPS would make a visual difference- in RA2 at least. Fast spinners look all chunky in movement because the game doesn't show enough frames to track the entirety of its movement. In theory your spinners could have some cool motion blur going on if they display more frames than your eye can process. That's what happens in real life.
Now granted that many games these days have motion blur effects rendered, and cameras naturally capture it, you really don't need super high FPS most of the time.

well there is no need to hate me :P

on a side note I will be AIing any SnS robots with either PillarPlus or WhipperPlus (whichever works better) unless you specify otherwise :-D as FBS AIing will basically hammer the last nail into the coffin for you

I have an SNS in store, very nimble, with an AI that can control a bot while spinning.

the only real thing that will kill them is FBS AI as they spin up straight away and the walls are open behind them so the other robot just needs to kamikaze into them and they go flying oota, other then that the arena just reliefs them from there dominance,

my guess at the top 3 bot types that will do well in the arena (in no particular order)

  • VS (they will do well)
  • Flippers / True Pop Ups
  • Gut Rippers / Wammers / Rammers

of course not taking into account original robots and also speaking from a general term, a rubbish VS isnt going to beat a well built Sheck Sinner just because I said it would

Question:  How do you get the AI to avoid that ball, if it's rolling around the arena?  Or will they just slam into it if it's in their way.

Kheper is probably going to fail in this arena, it gets pushed around too easily and it can't hit VS's very well.  But I made a few extra tweaks to it, so we'll see...

now that you mention it ? Its yet to be in any robots way but I dont think they attempt to avoid it ? hmm I will probably ditch the ball anyway I was expecting people to say the arena was a bit plan so I throw that in at the last minute but everyone liked the arena but not the ball (except Somebody he didnt like the arena at all)

due to the wall size they were prone to an occasional havok, Mad said this would be easily prevented if the walls were to be re-sized, so I am going to size them to the height of the small wall position and with that redo the .py commands and make them (as Click suggested) drop into the floor rather then rise above.

so that's just something to keep in mind :-D

the Clash Cubes Arena will take a while to modify/ rebuild but in the meantime the qualifying arena has changed

so whats different ? the walls have been lowered by 1/3 of the original size (post 1) and there is a huge black wall in the center....

qualifying in CC3 is going to be different to previous, now robots will race head to head to kill the qualifying robot faster then the other

the faster you "win" the better your qualifying position
the faster you "loose" the worse your qualifying position

the arena will also be reskinned/ named and feature in RA2:Backlash as a team match only arena... what makes it interesting is that in a team match you cant rely on your partner to help you out, its like 2 separate single matches

in each section there will be one competitor and one cube army,

it will become a little more clear once I post up the brackets (that is when the tournament starts)
