Fracture's Ironforge
« on: April 03, 2016, 05:18:03 PM »
THIS GAME HAS TOO MANY COMPONENTS!!!!! AND THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME!!!!! HOW DOES THIS WORK

Here is my LW VS (124.2 + 2x50 kg, Steel 1) that I miraculously won an in-game tournament with, though I almost lost to JaDeD in the last round.

So coming straight from Stock, are there any new bot types in this mod? I think something called flail shell spinner is popular in DSL? Also are the in-game AI built IRL or Standard?

Welcome to the superior mod (/s)! Your bot looks pretty solid, but there are a few things I would change:

I think blades are better in this situation, due to only 1 side of the weapon being needed
The wedges are useless. Only the centre AP of a skirt hinge is actually wedgy, and yours is too short to be useful IMO.
A LW only needs the yellow z-tec IMO. Motors are really damn powerful in this mod.
The motor is really exposed

It has some good things about it tho:
The armour panels in IF are really strong, so the front of your bot is well protected
You've got your batteries sorted first try, though maybe a black + pink would give more juice? Not sure on the numbers.
You made use of the free ballast weight, which is good.

Not to toot my own horn, but you might want to take a look at this bot, which is pretty similar conceptually to yours (despite being a hw):

Note how the weapons are behind the frontal protection, the weapons are as close to the ground as possible and I have 2 long wedges (which may not fall within the weight constraints of your bot). It's also worth experimenting with treads, they're pretty good in IF. Their length gives a lot of stability and the treads are really tanky (no pun intended) and can take plenty of hits. Notice how even the HW doesn't need supoer powerful motors for gutripping. I found having multiple weaker motors with more weapons increased stability greatly while keeping damage. You might want to consider using 2 yellow z-tecs on your bot if thats an option, or using 1 with more weapons if it's not.

As for your questions, consider IF as DSL:Promod. Most of the same bot types are popular (though flails aren't very common), and everyone builds DSL-S.

I find in IF that you generally don't need super beefy weapon motors. the HP on all weapons are so high that it's generally better to have more weapons than weapon force.

but yeah what badger said too. you might want to play with making the bot wider and using slim motor drive as well.

first few teams in the ai that comes with ironforge are supposed to be irl, then there are some more standard "normal" bots the the teams named after bot types.

Here's an update with Aluminum 3, 124.4+50. Definitely more destructive but pretty unstable...if there were slower drive motors I would be happy to use them

Getting the tiniest chassis possible isn't often the best option in IF, as opposed to DSL. You REALLY need the extra stability afforded by a larger chassis, especially on a gutripper-VS like this. If you can get that stability without making the chassis bigger than that's great, but it may not be an option.

While tracks have a lot of HP, I'm worried about them being so exposed as they are now, and your bot could really do with being wider.

treads are probably just too fast for a lw vs like this. you'd probably be off with ditching them and using a lighter wheel and then attaching skirts somewhere to work as stabilzers/make the bot wider.

unlike DSL/stock chassis armor in IF is actually pretty decent so it's not bad to have a larger chassis

weapon looks pretty good but yeah it needs to be wider. longer maybe too.

Empty space makes me cringe...this does seem like the best version so far though. 124.6 and Steel 1.

Can someone explain why all the wiring is backwards in this game???

wheels meshes are made backwards or something so they don't reverse when going up wedges which was some odd bug in ra2.

Didn't they reverse on some terrain, as well? Like on the lift in the space station arena?

Why does it only happen in Ironforge, though? The same wiring in Stock will be backwards in IF

Ironforge was the first mod to fix that "bug" in the game (technically it wasnt, the dsl3 beta was, but i dont count that really), hence why everything is backwards.

The front of that chassis is hella exposed, and you have a ton of empty space. You'll probably get gutripped to death with no wedge, too
