Blades of Fury
« on: July 20, 2011, 05:32:18 PM »
because I can

1. DSL MW (no more than 398.8 KG), IRL Realism rules apply. I will check all bots to see if they fit.
1.1 Multibots not allowed.
1.2 "Ring Spinners" are legal as long as nothing but the drive intersects the disc.
1.3 all wedges are OK, but if I think you are violating the spirit of the competition, your bot will be banned.
1.4 I will be running JoeBlo's "Narmour Be Gone" patch for this competition.
1.5 No Cheatbot2 or custom parts.

2. Matches will have a 3 minute time limit and will be held in the BattleBox 2.0 (HellRaisers off)
2.1 All matches are one fight.

3. Walkers/Shufflers get a 200KG weight bonus, but must spend at least 200kg on the walking system (AKA something that does not use wheels or weapons as a means of propulsion).
3.1 Treaded bots get a 60kg weight cushion.

4. A havok will result in a restart. If the bot Havoks again, the bot will be disqualified from the match. If the same bot gets another Havok DQ in a later match, the robot will be disqualified from the tournament (don't expose your motors).
4.1 If your bot is counted out and is still able to move, the match will be re-started. (as in: stuck under the pulverizer or in a corner)

5. No crawlers, popups, jugglers or other bot types that do not exist in real life.
5.1 No unrealistic weapon sizes/quantities

6. No limit on entries, but up to 3 per person please.

7. The tournament will be run ARC style (Robots are divided into groups, where they fight all the other bots in the group in a Round Robin style bracket, 1-on-1. The best win/loss record of each group advances into a bracket. Those bots square off in a single elimination 1-on-1 bracket to decide the champion.)

8. No BFE/AAM, in-game REALISTIC glitches allowed

9. As in Replica Wars, I will judge the bots based on Aggression,  Damage, and Strategy. My definition of Strategy is basically  controlling the fight, beating the other guy etc.
I will be entering, but I will be fair in judging situations.

By "Still able to move", do you mean impaled on a spike or component, or built without a self-righter and overturned?

You could do what Thyrus did for Stick Omega with the two Spike Strips (as a weaponed flipper, of sorts), the bot just has to look somewhat realistic (Diend isn't really that realistic-looking)

Also I'm gonna add some rules

Also I forgot about the judging:

As in Replica Wars, I will judge the bots based on Aggression, Damage, and Strategy. My definition of Strategy is basically controlling the fight, beating the other guy etc.

@090901

RL is only 3 rounds, Blades of Fury is as many rounds as there are bots in a league

Also I will accept skinned parts.

Awards I'm considering include Best Looking and Crowd Favorite, as well as Trooper, Warmonger, and the MikeNCR Award (effective yet cool-looking).

Just some things to shoot for when building.

yeah, you're right

I'm planning on starting signups tomorrow if no one has an objection to the rules and letting them stay open for a month, to collect as many entries as possible.

The reason why tomorrow is that I'm leaving for another week on Sunday morning and if I let them run for a month twhen I get back I won't be able to get too many vids up quickly because school starts in late August for me (but I get out 2 weeks before 027 does wooooo!)

You should finish your nascar thing first before starting this IMO.

Don't worry, nascar won't be held up by this (I can post 1 race and like 4 fights on a typical do-nothing day)

typical do-nothing day

Typical?  TYPICAL?

I could use a few more typical do-nothing days...

If the fights are being judged, I think you should either have a panel of 3 judges, or if you really want to be the sole judge, jury, and executioner, there should be some sort of way that your decisions can be challenged.  Even if you try to be fair, bias can creep into your assessment of the fight without you realizing it.  Maybe have 10 or so people that you trust, and if 7 or more of them agree that a certain fight was unfairly judged, the decision can be reversed.

To lack feeling is to be dead, but to act on every feeling is to be a child.
