Windows 7 Problems
« on: January 14, 2011, 02:10:09 AM »
I've read through a bunch of the other Windows 7 related topics, but they just seem to have an issue of getting the game to start or graphics displaying correctly. I'm having a problem where if I go to start a game, or try to create/edit any robots on a team my game will just freeze and I have to force close it.

I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64bit, if that helps.

I've tried the disc (with and without the 1.3 patch), and downloading Sage's version 1.4 from his signature.

Neither of them worked, and both of them freeze at the same point.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Super nostalgia awaits me.

After you download the .RAR file extract it to the desktop and try running RA2 from there. Then let us know if it worked or not.

Sorry if that wasn't clear before, but I've already done that. I tried it again, for sh**s and giggles, but no such luck. It froze in the same place, when I hit continue in the "Select your team" menu, or double click a team. Same goes for when I try to start a exhibition, it just freezes.

I've also tried running it in compatibility mode with no such luck, as well. The program gets an error saying that it's not responding as soon as it opens. This is with both the Disc version and the 1.4 that I downloaded from here.

Sounds like your Antivirus may be deleting part of the download....I had Norton 360 do that to me one time.

You may delete the file, and turn your AV off and download it again and try to run it before restarting your AV.

It's been in "Silent/Gaming mode" which it considers off. So, no such luck there.

I'm gonna go try it on one of the other computers in the house and see what happens.

It ran it straight off the disc on the other computer. The graphics were a little buggy, but once I patched it with 1.3 it worked flawlessly.

That computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit)

I'm going to try re-installing it using the disc, and see if that solves any problems. I'd really like to get this working on my laptop.

(Another thing I've noticed is that the music doesn't play on my laptop (The one that freezes). The other sounds still work, like clicking buttons, but not the music.)

EDIT: No such luck, again.

Everything you mentioned is there.

Good idea, though. :/

If the download works on another computer it's gotta be something with yours. Try running it not in fullscreen mode, that might make a difference. Also try dragging and dropping the file instead of extracting. Switch from gaming mode to a normal power mode (high performance?), turn off some of the graphic features of windows 7... thats what i would do to troubleshoot.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.
