Windows 7 problem
« on: October 14, 2012, 01:55:37 PM »
Hi guys, sorry to be a bother but having problems getting the game to even start. Have downloaded the Winrar file and extracted its contents to C:\Program Files\Infogrames, sent a shortcut to the desktop and tried to load RA2. After seeing the Infogrames logo and a message about robotic combat the whole thing locks and I get a message saying "RA2.exe is not responding". I've tried ticking Run as Administrator, I've even tried using compatibility mode, but nothing is getting the game to work. I've had a similar issue with some Steam games (something I still can't get around) and my laptop is relatively new, so I don't know what the problem is, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

what's the bit length of your processor? 32 or 64? that may be a factor

did you try moving ra2 into a different folder?
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

I moved it to the Desktop and tried running it from there, but no joy either.

Try running it from your documents folder.

Just tried that, this time I got one screen further (the ESRB one) before it crashed, which is even more frustrating as I thought I might be getting somewhere this time.

Put your Ra2 folder on your desktop.

Hmm... since compatibility mode didn't work (assuming you chose Windows XP (Service Pack 3) from the drop down box), the only thing I can think of is; Right click on the Computer icon on your desktop (or if it isn't on your desktop, click the windows symbol, hover over computer, and right click), click properties, click Advanced System Settings on the left hand side, click the Settings button under Performance, click the Data Execution Prevention tab, if it hasn't already got the dot in it, click 'turn on DEP for all programs and services except the ones I select, click Add, locate the RA2.exe, and add it to the list, then try running it again.
Yes that sequence of words I just said made perfect sense.

Argh that didn't work either, can I just confirm that what I've done is correct though?

1. Downloaded the RA2 v1.4 .rar file.
2. Extracted its contents to C:\Program Files\Infogrames (also moved it to Desktop and My Documents since)
3. Sent shortcut to desktop and launched game.

I read somewhere about a NO-CD patch, it couldn't be that I'm missing something simple, could it?

Where did you download this from? Have you downloaded a mod such as DSL?
Check out Sage's Signature, he has a working link.

Just plodding through the threads in Tech Support..
Have you tried putting it on a USB stick and loading it directly from that?

TRiaS: He said he downloaded the RA2 v1.4 rar, so it's fair to assume he got it from Sage's download...

RA2 is a very finnicky and unstable game. It could definitely be a possibility that something small but critical is missing.

The only thing I could really suggest is trying to start over and extract to the desktop rather than the Infogrames folder in Program Files this time. There is always a chance that something was lost in the multiple moves.

You guys are being so helpful and I can't thank you enough, but still no joy :( I had indeed downloaded the file from Sage's link, which I've just done again to see if there was an issue there, extracted it all to my Desktop, but still nothing. I don't want to have to give up on it but I really don't know what else to try.

FSDisplayHeight=????
FS3DDisplayWidth=????
