Title: Windows 7 problem
Post by: j000 on September 29, 2010, 10:20:22 AM
Hi :)
I have problem with Robot Arena 2 on my Windows 7 x64. Menus works great, I can create/edit robots, but I cannot play. When I click "Test robot" game crashes. When I enter tournament screen goes black, I hear some sounds and then game crashes.
I tried compatibility mode, tried 1.3 version from Sage signature, but nothing works. I have no idea what could be the problem.

Straight away, the thing that strikes me is the x64, my Windows 7 is x32, though I'm not sure that would have anything to do with it. It may be the graphics card, that's fairly likely, but it could also be a compatibility issue with some other software you could be running. We should probably wait for someone like Trov or Serge to give their opinion on the matter.

Oops. I forgot.  :embarr
I'm new, welcome everyone.
If this game doesn't try to install some kind of driver everything should work the same way as it works in 32-bit version, but it doesn't.
I have Intel GMA950, but game is much older, so it should work. My drivers are updated.

I had the same problem when I tried to install on a Windows 7 64 bit machine.

Just use the one from sages sig.

Extract to the desktop and it should work.  (Don't put it in the program folder where it should go)

I tried version from Sage's sig, I wrote this above. I also searched before posting a question, but nothing helps.
I had it in F:\Gry\Robot Arena 2, moving to desktop didn't help.
Could this be some kind of codec problem? I noticed AC3 icons after crashes...

Hang on, F drive? That's normally a removable flash disk for me, why not C or D drive?

You can change the drive letters to your will and it could also be possible that he has his CD drive before some of his harddrives on the cables, as the cables do the some part of the drive letter deciding.
OR
He has alot of harddrives.
My freind has upto letter J, I think and many of them are 500Gb usb harddrives, wich are all full! Just like my 2 1Tb harddrives are currently running out of space so im getting another one to fill up!

Ah, okay, SSG, I was unaware of that. Thanks for clearing that up. =)

And I've got Robot Arena 2 in "C/Users/Nick/RA2............" depending on what Mods I have. So I don't think Program files has much to do with it either.

Witam rodaka :D.

I'm running the game on Win7 x64 without a problem. So it crashes only on "Test Robot"? Does it work on Exhibition?

It crashes whatever I try to do. And I noticed that in exhibition I'm unable to select arena. There is black box and photo.

This is what happens next:
(http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/9325/ra22.th.png) (http://img835.imageshack.us/i/ra22.png/)
and you can wait forever, but nothing happens. Sometimes the screen goes black, I can hear crowds applauding and after pressing any key I get Windows' error.
So I suppose I just wont be able to play :(

try clicking a different game mode then go back to your original.

the CC2 game I had to record matches did this.

I had to click 2v2 then click back to 1v1 to get arenas to show up. :P

When you updated the drivers, are you sure you got the newest version from Intel, and not an old version from your manufacturer?

(Nie przejmuj się, Twój angielski nie jest taki zły - każdy z nas chyba kiedyś tak zaczynał!)

The same version works on same system (but clean install) on virtual machine without problems, but it's very very slow. And there are some minor 3d graphic problems - normal with virtual machines and Intel graphics.
So it's my Windows' problem. Since no-one have any idea, I'll try to find it on my own.
I have modded drivers, they work slightly better in some situations with games. AFAIK they're based on latest official drivers, which are one year old.
