Hello, I have a new Windows 7 computer. I want to install RA2 on it but it is not going as smoothly as it does on my old XP computer. I want to be able to install RA2, and then put in all my old AI packs and versions. I already have all of the versions copied onto the computer, I just need to install the actual game and put them together. Tried it earlier but it didn't work.
-
where on your computer are you installing it to?
-
That was one of the things I was looking for help on. It automatically installs in Program Files (x86) but I think I could also install it in Program Files (without the x86) if I wanted to.
-
yeah, stick it "program files" without the (x86)
-
How do I get it to install in the normal "program files". I've tried setting it to install into that folder multiple times and it still keeps installing in the x86 folder, and not working once installed.
-
Don't install it, just download the version in my signature. Makes everything a lot less messy.
-
Tried that too. WinRAR free trial says that it can't be opened.
-
Try 7zip
-
Can it open .rar files?
-
DP
By the way, when I copied over my other version of the game, I copied over EVERYTHING, and they won't open either.
-
dont copy over, just download the new one! clean install. it works for everyone else, so theres something wrong with your WinRAR.
-
Trying 7zip and it keeps giving me the same answer. "Can not open output file (filename here)" for all the files. I've tried it with three different downloaded versions of RA2, from your sig. Stock and DSL.
-
try re-installing winRAR
-
I have seven, and just put my old RA2 folder from XP on desktop and it worked like a charm.
-
Reinstalled WinRAR, and it still didn't work. Then tried to Extract to the desktop, and it worked! Stock 1.4 ran from the desktop, but DSL 2.1 did not still. It just tries to open and then says that Robot Arena 2.exe has stopped working. None of the other copied over versions (residing on the desktop) have worked either.
-
Do you have a USB that can fit all your RA2 Stuff? Because if you do you can do that and just play off of the USB. That's what I do and I have a Windows 7 laptop. I currently have over 40 versions I think, and it takes a little less than about 16 GB but I don't think that you have that many and if you do than try to get another USB.

Got it working in an odd, yet reliable way. Thanks for your help guys.
