Why does this happen?
« on: October 20, 2009, 06:04:14 AM »
when my robot is being pushed by another with the prongs underneath and I accelerate it goes into reverse...almost like the controls are reversed..then when im off, its like I must push forward twice in order to ride in the right direction? is this part of the game?

I've not seen your situation, Z, but you can reverse the x+z coordinates in the gmf and it will make for crazy steering. Everything willl be opposite: L=R, R=L, F=B, B=F. If the component had these tweeked, then it will result in reversed controls.
Note: If you think about it, this would be convenient, because your enemy (User or AI) when trying to back off your 'reversed coordinate' component fork would actually keep itself on more leaving you in control of your enemy....

I don't have time to show pics and illustrate this now. For an example, look in the top haunted 'attic' of my Giant Test Garage. The coordinates are reverse there, and it makes getting away from the dangerous entity up there very difficult.
.
Input is appreciated. :)

I have two sets of controls - normal and reversed, just in case my bot flips upside down so steering remains the same( yes I use two sets of direction pads)...Maybe I didnt explain properly....enemy approaches from the rear (LOL) with prongs extended underneath my bot....now, he is directly behind me. I want to accelerate off and forward but instead it reverses into him.....even when I spin to get off it and push forward the controls are inverted. To rectify I must take my hand off direction key and push it again..its not really an issue but I just find it annoying trying to outrun faster bots and counter attack

Is this just a normal game glitch?

I believe so. When driving on the "flipper" ramp in the DSL test garage, a slow-moving bot will stop and have reversed controls until it gets back on the garage floor.

It must be similar to that. So yes.

It happens to me too, you just have to get used to it.

Z, I didn't know you were asking a question with your second post. What I'm saying is that if the prongs are this way, then it is what it is; and even may have been done deliberately....

The 'addextra...' ramp in the garage....is an example of the x + z coordinates being switched around. If you go up the ramp to jump, once you're on the ramp the controls are turned around and you quickly lose speed, because it's wanting then to go reverse full speed. This should be fixed for DSL3, though I didn't see it mentioned...

Thanks, guys.

I don't think it has to do with the components.  My controls get reversed whenever a wheel touches ANY part of ANY other bot.  The only way I've found to fix it is to make wheels with simulation geometry 5 or 6.

Yep.
I don't know about the 'prongs', and I don't really have time to check it out. But any geomobject (arena or component) that has these switched will reverse the controls when a bot passes over it, like the 'Ramp' in the garage (in which there are no other bots).

BTW: CB, didn't I send you an example of this? Duh...maybe it was to someone else...I forgot. Too tired right now.
