Title: Wheel Re-skin Help
Post by: Gazea2 on April 05, 2010, 08:09:17 AM
I re-skinned the granny wheels and now the re-skinned version is invisible. It appears on the menu but when I attach it it is invisible. Here is the file:

https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/slipperbottom2.rar (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/slipperbottom2.rar)

It includes the gmf and the images for the wheel.

Which compiler did you use?

Dummy's gmf compiler fixed by megabyte.

Thanks.  :bigsmile:

One more problem... I used Serge's decompiler and the gmf file came up blank. :/

The only decompiler I could find of his was the arena one and I used that. Does he have one for components?

It's the same one.

You need to call the decompiled GMF something different to what it was called before.

Ok, I've done that but now it won't let me compile it with his compiler. :?

Come on, everyone. Please help!

Try Decompiling with Serges

then Recompiling with FB's version of dummys (on the Beetle Bros site)

thats how I recall making my new wheels (for CA1 and Backlash)

I did that and the game crashed when I clicked on it.

also its important you dont try and overwrite with Serges.. you must write a new file name and put .gmf on the end

-------------------

if you did that and it doesnt work then try the other way around (decompile with FB and recompile with Serges)

I cant remember how I ended up doing it but I know the original stock wheels are the problematic ones,

Serge/ FB combo should work for any DSL wheel (directed at Nar)

That's what I missed! I didn't put a .gmf at the end! Thanks, Joe.  :bigsmile:

Talking of this, does it makes a difference if you put .gmf or .GMF capitalized ? I don't think so, but the 'Styles' entry in a txt file seems to accept both.

I thought it would work... but it didn't.

I think I'm just going to give up instead of giving all of you guys this trouble.

you giving up will find you in more trouble :P

I have 0 problems helping others dive into modding,

@Nar I dont think file names are case sensitive

Ok, thanks. I just can't figure this out. I can skin any component... except for the wheels.

few questions

how urgent is it ?
do you have an IM ? (msn, aim, etc)

its late over here so I am no longer thinking the best but we can try and figure it out when its a convenient time for us both  ;)

1) It's not really urgent but I would like it for a skin pack that I am making.
2) I have a windows live account. It is: gazea2@live.co.uk
3) I'm happy to sort it out whenever you can. :)

Well.

My compiler and decompiler (remember  -those are two different programs!) should do wheels fine. PLEASE file bug reports (complete with the file you were trying to mess around with)!

So, do you want me to upload the files?

Yes, if you are sure this is the compiler acting up (and not a faulty GMF).
Title: Re: Wheel Re-skin Help

I tried to compile it one last time and your compiler came up with about 5 error messages about different things. :/

Here are the files:

https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/Granny wheel files.rar (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/Granny wheel files.rar)

The gmf is decompiled so that you can take a look at it.  :bigsmile:

The light was **cked up. Why do you need a light in a component, anyway?

Delete all the *LIGHT objetc and decrease the object count, so it lookes like this:
Code: [Select]
...

*UVW_BLUR_OFFSET 0.000000
*UVW_NOISE_AMT 1.000000
*UVW_NOISE_SIZE 1.000000
*UVW_NOISE_LEVEL 1
*UVW_NOISE_PHASE 0.000000
*BITMAP_FILTER SAT
*BITMAP_MAP_CHANNEL 1
}
}
}
}
}
}
*OBJECT_LIST
{
*OBJECT_COUNT 7
*GMID_ATTACHMENTPT
{
*NODE_NAME Point01
*NODE_TM
{
*NODE_NAME Point01
*TM_ROW0 1.000000 0.000000 -0.000000
*TM_ROW1 -0.000000 1.000000 -0.000000
*TM_ROW2 0.000000 0.000000 1.000000
*TM_ROW3 0.000000 0.000000 0.106141
}
USER DATA Type = Attach
ID = 1
Attach = Axle_F
}
*GEOMOBJECT
{
*NODE_NAME whitewheel_collision

...

Also the Attachment Point userdata was messed up.

actually funny enough its the stock components that are screwy.. most are compared to the DSL stuff

your compiler dislikes the ****ed up stuff but one of them (I think FB's) will smash it all together anyway

Thank you Serge and Joe! It now works.

Thanks for your patience. :)
