Ok, when I make a new component, or edit one without overwriting the skin, what I do is copy the relevant txt. file, gmf. file and bmp. file for the component. I decompile the gmf and add in the bmps name to where it's necessary in the gmf. Then compile the gmf and proceed to edit the txt file and changing the model to whatever the gmf is called that's in question (obviously the gmf isn't called the same as the original). Then, put the txt file in the components folder, the gmf file to where the txt file says dir and moving the bmp file into the maps folder in the component folder in hand.
This works for weapons, extenders and extras but not wheels (I haven't tried it with batteries or motors but I think it'll work). When I click on the component in the bot lab, the slot for the component shows up but not the component itself. Can I fix this? Is there any other method?

IIRC one of the decompiles/compiles doesn't work with wheels, which is probably why thats happening.

what compiler are you using?
different compilers have different issues. if you're using serge's, and tell me what wheel you're using, I can help you out

I'm still having this problem. When I copy a wheel GMF, on this occasion it's the Taz Wheel, I copy the thing perfectly and it turns invisible. The only thing left in its slot is an attachment point. What can I do?
P.S. I've tried Serge's Decomp/Comp and it leaves the file empty! What is going on?

Are you setting the compiled GMF and decompiled GMF file names to the same thing? They should be different for Serge's compiler and decompiler.

I did it for the decompiler but the next time looked at it, it was empty. I deleted it after.

Guys, I figured out how to copy wheels, but there are some GMF files I don't understand how to read.
IE the Taz Wheel GMF I can find the line I need to edit and rename to the map's name, but the Mini Wheel's GMF is in utter gibberish. I don't know what part to edit because there isn't a bmp line for the wheel.
EDIT: I found a line in the wheel but it crashed the game when I edited it.
