Vista + Nvidia + RA2 = No?
« on: December 19, 2008, 12:26:16 AM »
I have got my game working just fine on my older computer (windows XP), but it runs slower than I would like it to although its still playable. My newer computer has Vista and a Nvidia card but RA2 will not work for some reason. I can get to the team selection screen, but if I try to select one it freezes on me, same when I try to start a battle in exhibition. I have installed the correct patch but it hasn't helped at all, any ideas?

When my XP computer crashed, i bought a new one with Vista, i copy my RA2 directory from old archive to the new machine and everything is allright.

Your problem so should not be a Vista Problem.

However, Vista is a little psycho with rights and write permission, so you may have problems if you do not have all your directory and files with Write permission. The fact that it crashes when you open a bot in you laboratory make me thing that it may be  your RA2/Teams/Teams.txt file that have no write permission.

I did not re-install from scratch (ie from Cd) for i wanted to keep all the teams i've made and the AI pack or component pack i used to download.
As i usually make archive of some part of my disk, i just download the RA2/ directories tree  from the archive to my new computer. Btw it's a good thing to archive RA2/ quite often, particulary if you works on teams, AI and so  : sometime i break RA2 so hard that my only solution si to clean everything and get from one of this archive. I create such a zip (or .rar) about once a month.

Make sure you have the 1.3 patch installed in EACH AND EVERY game.

Yes Somebody I got my disk back. I only have one version ACAMS, just stock and it has the 1.3 installed. I'll check some things out, thanks for the tips philetbabe that could be the problem.

EDIT: Does anybody know how to just turn all the security crap off on Vista? The write permission thing is blocking all of my RA2 files (such as the team.txt) so that may be causing it not to work. However I can't figure out how to turn it all off at once, instead of going through all the properties of the files.
