Title: Transparent chassis help
Post by: Hard Bot on February 09, 2011, 11:38:39 AM
I want to make a bot with a transparent chassis without bot file editing. What do I do?

You can't.

.exe won't allow it even with file editing.

The game engine won't allow it.

use screenshots of the bot's inside as a skin to make it look transparent (like on Stratocaster)

Without BFE:
Not searched for such in the exe, but maybe someone still into it could do exe Sergery on such,... and/or just get it to accept 'clear-coat paint jobs' (some Alpha channel format).

With BFE:
1. Lower the top of the chassis to just above the floor.
2. A totally inviso-chassis,
     a. You can make the chassis invisible while components visible.
            or
     b. Trov and/or Sage (?) and I made completely invisible AI bots.

Three ways:
1. Edit the .bot file (which you already said you didin't want to do).
2. Skin the bot using screenshots of its insides.
3. Make a custom PY that uses plus.show(BotID,CompID,True/False) to make the chassis invisible.

Actully,i'm talking about the chassis being transparent as lexan.

It doesn't change my response. For a realistic lexan look your going to need a combination of custom components (lexan) and one of the previously mentioned invisibility techniques.

Transparent skins are impossible in the normal game. You'd have to screw around with the .exe file to get it to work, and so far nobody's managed it. I believe someone had a go a while back (venko, IIRC), but it didn't pan out.

I made a transparent chassis texture ages ago which the game loaded into the botlab but it crashed soon after applying :P

How do you clear-coat paint jobs?

Not apply a texture and pretend you put a clear coat on. :P
