Title: Terrible Skins
Post by: helloface on July 18, 2013, 12:56:12 AM
I'm trying to skin T.R.A.C.I.E, but my mspaint abilities are lacking. I cannot do the letters properly. Any tips and/or similar fonts?

Wrong section, dude.

But yeah... You need something besides MSpaint.

I use Fireworks for overlaying images, creating awesome-looking text (my new Articulator shows this on the top), making parts of the skin look see-through and editing parts that would normally take hours to edit in anything else. Paint.net is my logo rotating, colour replacing and alpha channel guru, and regular old MSPaint (not the new one, that version sucks balls and is over-complicated, one that's based on the 95-XP version of Paint.) for anything else that requires a bit of elbow grease to fix.

Before you start skinning, resize the pic to 400%, you can do a whole lot more detail that way.  Sites like Dafont.com have tons of good fonts for free, search for "stenciled fonts" or something.

I checked out Dafont and found this:

Do you think this is a good font for T.R.A.C.I.E?
Also, can I move threads, or is that a mod privilege. I want to move this to tuts & tips, like I intended it to be in.

When you click to view the font, there's a little searchbar looking thing that allows you to type whatever in and you can see how (whatever you're going to type in that font) will look.

Also, I'd try these few and see if they work for you.

http://www.dafont.com/capture-it.font (http://www.dafont.com/capture-it.font)

http://www.dafont.com/gunplay.font (http://www.dafont.com/gunplay.font)

http://www.dafont.com/moms-typewriter.font (http://www.dafont.com/moms-typewriter.font)

I found this in Fancy > Typewriter and Fancy > Army/Stencil. I'd look around those.

Gunplay was good, but the R of space ranger worked better so I'm going with Space Ranger. Thanks for the help guys! I may be doing some more skins soon for my tournament soon.

Yeah, you can always just draw on a letter if it doesn't look perfect; I do that a lot.  BTW, threads in tuts and tips are tutorials only, not threads asking for help.
