Robot Arena 2 crashes on startup/black screen
« on: July 15, 2014, 11:56:57 AM »
So, I have been going through a bunch of old threads, and tried many of the solutions, but none seem to work. I have tried setting configuration to my resolution, and fullscreen=1, it opens from desktop, and I have tried optimizing it for many OS's. I use win-7 64 bit

Could you give us some information about your game? Has it been doing this since you got it, how did you get it, what mod are you using and also have you edited any other files. This can all help us determine the problem :)

It has been doing this since I dowloaded it, I have tried Using Sage's downloads both dsl and the game, I have edited the configuration as previously posted. I'm going to try using a virtual machine running vista and see how it works. will post solution.

did you put all of your RA2 folder directly (or indirectly) on the desktop?

I put the whole folder on the desktop.

Haven't finished with the virtual pc yet.

It did not work. It said something about it not finding a graphical device on the virtual machine

I know it sounds silly but you are extracting it from the .rar right?

You can try things like disabling antivirus/firewall, check dirextx drivers, remove any second screen if you have one and so on. How does it crash, like how far do you get? Is it still in the task manager after the crash? Any messages?

Have not disabled antivirus, I game often so my directX drivers are up to date, no second screen.  It gets to the infogrames logo, then nothing. It just sits there and loads. All I get is my cursor giving me the loading sign. And no, I have let it load for a while, because if it takes more than 10 hours to load, I'm not bothering with it. I have let it load for 10 hours straight.

Try extracting it to some different locations maybe?

I know your user folder is one some people have used which may be worth a go.
Also, you say you tried both DSL and the game, does that mean you tried both the DSL ready-to-go .rar and the Robot Arena 2 v1.4 rar?

Are the RAR files corrupt? RobotArena2v1.4.rar should be 89.09 MB.

What are you extracting with? WinRAR, 7zip, etc.
