RA2 Font
« on: November 15, 2015, 10:18:31 PM »
Is it at all possible to change the font RA2 uses, or is it dictated by the .exe?

Apparently the game uses "fg_mcn14" as a font according to events.txt, but googling that just brings up results for GTM.
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

The following is a list of fonts that RA2 recognizes:
  • fg_d18
  • fg_d20
  • fg_d24
  • fg_d26
  • fg_dcn14
  • fg_dcn16
  • fg_mcn12
  • fg_mcn14
  • fg_mcn16
  • System

With the exception of the last one, all of these fonts can be found in RA2.cfz with the .GIFF extension. Unfortunately, the file format appears to be used exclusively by Gabriel Interactive. That said, it is probably based off of some other more common format since all of the custom formats that Gabriel Interactive created were human readable (like GIBs and BOTs) unless they modified/renamed some other format (like they did for CFZs and GMFs).

I tried opening it up in notepad++ like I would with a .bot or .gib and got a screen full of [nul]s.

Opening an actual font file also gives garbage data, but it seems like the .ttf I opened up has a different header than the .giff. What software would I use to go about to convert this into non-gibberish?

To my knowledge, the community has never known how to open/modify these files. If we could figure out which format they based it on, we could probably reverse engineer it but I haven't had much luck.

tried any image editors? just curious, since a lot of games use images for fonts.
