I have a beetleweight with a havoking problem. It's got 2 piglets (yeah yeah, I know, but the Astroflights don't fit in my chassis) and 2 hypno-wheels, and it havoks often and unpredictably. Is this a glitch on my copy of the game or a common problem?
-
if I am imagining your robot right it has nothing to do with Piglets or Hypnos
its called the nasty pickle glitch and is caused by a small chassis (and usually big wheels but it can happen with small ones)
-
Yep, I went with the smallest chassis I could, it's about 2 squares wide on the design grid.
Should I make the chassis bigger to alleviate the problem?
-
That glitch wrecked my BBeans entry.

yes or make a new drive setup that has them wider apart (assuming they are close together)
-
Use copals. Copals are better than piglets as drive.
-
im woking one right now that is doing it with the drum. its on a piglet and it wont stop. i hate my bots sometimes.

Are you sure about that? I know that Astro's are better than Piglets, but Copals too?
-
Copals have 12 torque, Piglets have 10. Hence more powerful.
-
i just tested this and i hate to say this but your wrong. in a 157Kg bot with BOTH copal and piglet drive systems wired separately. while i had a fast start with the copals it stayed slow as heck. the pigs took about >1/2 sec to reach top sp5ed but were at least 3 times faster then the copals.
-
Piglets have a higher top end speed but lower acceleration
BUT
if im not mistaken the lack of torque means that the copals can actually push a piglet drive robot around...

Yep. And that means copals are also flankier than piglets.

I've just thought, if you used Drive Motors for weapons on a VS, would that make it easier to throw the opponent up into the air?
-
yes and no. while you have more tq your loss of rpm means a loss of kinetic force. it will spin slower but get stooped less. in my mind it depends on the bot.

No. Topspeed is more important than torque for VS, unless you find your spinner getting stopped too often for your taste.

Sounds like they'd be ideal for bar spinners then.
-
top speed is waaayy more important on spinner weapons...
the motors in backlash has really low torque to counter balence the speed (so they dont bumble-ball so easy) and you say how far they through robots in the preview video...
-
keep in mind my comment was based on scientific knowledge in the RW. i dont know why i did that but there it is. lol and even in game i stand by it for SOME bots.
-
hate to be the one to tell you but very little in the real world applys to RA2.. wheel size doesnt even matter as one example
-
lol i know but i cant afford to make a real bot so i spend my summer taking apart junk and making it deadly. i wish i still had my Chevy 350 powered VS bar thing I made 2 summers ago. lol that thing could literally go through a 1980 car frame with no slowdown at all.lol

What if you're making a rammer, where the drive is the weapon? Then is it good to use Piglets?

How many times must I repeat that piglets are not fitted for drive purposes ?
-
Surely slim bodies would fit inside if pigkets will?
They're quite similair size.
