On-Startup Crash
« on: March 03, 2012, 08:39:05 PM »
I have seen a few other people with the same problem as I, but I haven't found a solution so far. I start the game and my screen flashes black, then this:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/11/ra2ah.jpg/

I am running Windows Vista 32-bit.
I have tried uninstalling and install RA multiple times.
I have tried Sage's DSL and RA2 downloads.
I have tried all compatibility settings for all operating systems that I can.
I have tried RA v1.3, 1.2, and 1.4.
I have restarted my computer with each new installation (so obviously two aren't running at the same time.)
I have tried replacing the CFG with a fresh, working one.

This same crash every single time. What do I do? I haven't gotten it to run, period, since i've gotten this error.
Can someone please help? :/

Go to C:\Program Files\Infogrames\Robot Arena 2 DSL (or where ever you crashing game is) and open ra2.cfg with notepad and set to your screen resolution...

FSDisplayWidth=1600
FSDisplayHeight=1200
FS3DDisplayWidth=1600
FS3DDisplayHeight=1200

 :welcome

And yeah I had that problem on vista before, just turn it to full screen if you can get to the main menu or do what ACAMs said and it should work.

No difference whatsoever. I haven't done anything strange or unusual (like modding) except download (and try to no avail) DSL.

Have you mixed it with another copy of RA2? If so that could be a problem.

I haven't mixed 'em. I just downloaded them, put them in the correct spots, and tried launching.

By which spot do you mean? The Infograms folder?

I've tried on my desktop, program files, documents, and infogrames folder (in program files.)

So, you say you did no modifications to the game. Is your user account the computer owner(or administrator) Because if not it can limit features on games.

I changed the resolutions you provided with my own, which are 1680 x 1050.

Try 800x600 and see if it still crashes.

The 800x600 resolutions didn't change anything.

I don't know if this is the reason, but I got a new graphics card before this error started happening, a Nvidia GTX560. Could that be the problem?

Maybe .... probably, because nVidia has messed up this game in the past so bad that I now use ATI. The 1.3 patch is supposed to fix older nVidia problems but may not work with your new card.

That would suck. I really hope that is not the case. Would using my old graphics card along with this one possibly fix it?

Use your old card instead just to see!
