Title: New To R.A.2 & Need Some Help
Post by: Kanejr00 on January 04, 2009, 02:32:40 PM
Hi, guys.

I just picked up Robot Arena 2 yesterday. I have always been into robotics, but I don't know much about them. I guess you can say that BattleBots got me hooked and about a week ago I was looking for some of the VHS tapes that I recorded some of the old BattleBots matches on and I couldn't find them so I decided to get Robot Arena 2 (I've never played the first version). Whenever I first started playing it, I couldn't stop. I bet I played the game for 5-6 consecutive hours last night. I just love creating the robots, but I'm not all that great at it right now.

A guy on youtube told me about gametechmods.com so I decided to check it out. I'm trying to download some of you guys' extra components and weapons and other parts as the game doesn't have a wide selection of them.

It took me awhile to get the BattleBox, but I got it, but I can't get the components and weapons and such onto my game.

Any help is greatly appreciated and please note that I'm not exactly all that smart whenever it comes to computers so step by step instructions are greatly appreciated!!!

-Kane

YAY. NEW MEMBER!

First of all, welcome to the forums. If you pay attention and be nice you'll learn allot about building and such.

To answer your question, first thing you want to do is download the Stock AI parts. DOWNLOAD HERE (https://gametechmods.com/Robot_Arena2/Components/Combo_AI_%26_SZ.zip)  read the README.txt to use it.
that will unlock all the hidden components, some of which are very useful.
If you want other components, download the folder and add it to the components section (which should be C:\Program Files\Infogrames\Robot Arena 2\Components)

if there is a readme.txt in the download, read it and it should tell you what to do if you're confused.

Hope that helps! And good to see enthusiastic new members!

If you're planning to download some custom components then I suggest making a second copy of your game so you can always keep your clean one incase something goes wrong or you want to install something else ect.

EDIT: What was the name of the person who refered you to gametechmods?

Welcome !

For bot building tips be sure to check that : http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm.

Also you could try DSL, the biggest and best mod for RA2. It's actually more realistic and you have much more diversity than in Stock (the original RA2).

There is a link in my sig for that (credit to Sage)

To Sage:

Thank you. I will give that a try as soon as I post this message. Much appreciated! :)

To man manu:

That's a good idea, thanks.

And the guy's screen name that referred me to your site is "ScrapDaddy'. That may not be his exact youtube screen name, but it's is close.

And I am bookmarking this site and plan to stick around.

Sorry for the double post, but where shall I save these downloads to? Which file?

Edit: And I don't have win.rar, will this be a problem?

Welcome Kane. Nice to see you here.
As Sage said, there's lots of stuff to learn, and there are plenty here who are willing and able to help out. Just try to search the site before asking questions.

When you get time feel free to post some of your bot creations. Many guys here are experts at bot building and techniques, some of which have already posted.

And the person who referred you, scrap daddy, is a very good builder and is still around.

You need WinRAR to unpack .rar files. Nearly everything we share here/ you can download here is in .rar format.

For your RA2 downloads you generally need to extract the RAR file using winRAR, then you copy/paste all the components in your RA2 folder.

______

Also I ABSOLUTELY AGREE with Mad when he speaks about "searching". There is much information in the Technical Support board, as in all RA2 related ones.

ScrapDaddy is Scrap Daddy here on the forums. Its great to see a new member who doesn't ask for DSL and leave. Its also great that you don't talk in IM and you aren't all arrogant. For WinRAR, just download the free 40 day trial, it never goes away.

And make sure you get DSL, because it is (in the words of most noobs) da absolut pwnager mod!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D

Thanks for the welcoming, guys. :D I just got back in so I will try this stuff out.

And oh yeah, expect to see me around here more often. All of this is still new to me so these wont be my last questions.

Again, thanks for all of the help!
