Title: Making a realistic Flipper-Shell Spinner help.
Post by: Hard Bot on July 14, 2011, 04:34:44 PM
I am trying to make a realistic Flipper-Sheck Spinner for BattleBots 2. How do you do that? It is somehow possible in real life because R.o.T.a.S. proved it.

Or like Warrior from Team Whyachi, I take it?

Anyway, I suppose that a wedged part of the chassis could protrude from the FBS part, with the flipper built onto that. At least that's my theory, but it might be worth a try.

The chassis has to be higher than the spinning ring, and you put the burst motor in the part of the chassis that's above the spinner.  The flipper cannot intersect with the spinning ring.

I don't see the point of making one of these bots. IRL it makes sense because the spinner mechanism is being used to store energy for the flipper mechanism. In RA2 it is two separate systems that do not do anything for the other one in any way. Also it's typically better to spend your weight on one weapon instead of two mediocre weapons.

You're missing the point. R.O.T.A.S. had a gas engine for its spinner and its flipper was powered by standard pneumatics.

Well I made RoTS in DSL perfectly fine...
Axleloading and the hollow axle principle basically.
IRL, they used a ring spinner design with the flipper inside the "ring" , so it was much easier.
