Title: How to change avatar

All the times I try to change my avatar, it says it has to be an avatar, or it is too large, what is and isn't an avatar, and what size should the photo be?

I think the maximum size for avatars is about 150x150. I had to shrink and crop my current avatar down to 148x150 before it would accept it, and my previous one was about 90x120.
