Title: help with 3d studio max
Post by: DuckRA2 on June 18, 2009, 04:59:10 PM
I was following the wiki tutorial by Serge on making a component in 3dstudio max 8 (im using 9, I think it should work) and I got to this part, im kinda stuck. which export button is he talking about???

 Select your display mesh, make sure main_display is NOT checked (for the curious: checking this would make main_display the geom's parent, we don't want this at the moment). Next, click on Export in the same group. A message box saying "File saved successfully" should pop up. This created a file called c:\test.txt.

I clicked one of those export buttons and I got this txt file -

   *LIGHT
   {

can anyone help?

EDIT: does he mean the one under geometry?

Yeah, he means that you need to click the export button under Geometry not Light because you never made a light source that could be exported.

Why does no one use the official exporter these days?
In my opinion it is much easier to make components and arenas with.

The official exporter requires max v4 / v5, which is quite hard to come by now, Goose.

You get an error because you're not selecting any object to export, dummy :P.

My issue is a little different. I am also using Max 9. I was able to get everything to work correctly in the creation process but the components crash my game. Serge worked to dilligently to teach my "older" brain how to work these "new fangled" computers :P We are sure that the .GMF is compiled correctly and the .TXT file is there. I am able to see a correct preview and everything, but when I click on the component to get the attach button on the lower right it crashes. I see no mini model or attach button or anything. AS soon as I click it crash. I continued checking everything all night last night but still no luck. I as now starting to wonder if the export script we have been using for MAX 9 is flawed somehow. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!
