Issues applying custom skins to robots
« on: November 22, 2011, 03:01:52 AM »
Hi. I'm running RA2 CD v1.3 with Starcore 3 installed and no other mods. My OS is Win7 32-bit. I just tried to skin my bot with this skin:

However, when applying the skin in-game, I get this:

A 256x256 px version of the same skin results in this:

What's going on? The skin was made in the GIMP and saved as a BMP. I've also tried opening it up in Paint and saving as a 24-bit BMP, it hasn't helped.

Cheers guys.

Are you going to the paintjob portion of the botlab and choosing export paint template (check on the box that says "export the current chassis texture blah blah")?

Then are you editing that template and saving it to the same folder and importing it back to the bot?

As a test... do an export on a simple template and just add a logo or something with Paint and then import it and see what it does.  That will help determine if it is GIMP's savefile or not.

Check on the first two parts. I did the test, when edited with only paint it worked fine, when I edited the same texture in gimp I had the same problem as before.

When saving in gimp for robot skins. Select "Save as..." and then try to save it as a .bmp. When it gets to the advanced options. Expand them and select X8 R8 G8 B8. Then press save. That should do it.

Thanks, that did the trick. The Ragebot II now has a very ragey skin to go with it!
